Look Your Age!

Description:

Its always been annoying to me that every man and woman from 15-50 years of age looks exactly the same from the neck down. No single body mod can be appropriate for every NPC in the game.

Look Your Age! intends to add immersive variety to the people of Skyrim. The current goal is to add four demographics to the populace. Each demographic will use a separate body mod, defined by the player:

  • Haggard: beggars, prisoners, drunks, and the otherwise destitute. Separated so the player can set a dirty body type while keeping most others clean.
  • Young: The young adults - like apprentices, younger siblings, etc. Generally, NPCs with the "YoungEager" voice type will fall into this category.
  • Mature: The older NPCs that aren't quite old enough to belong to the Elder race. Maven Black-Briar, for instance.
  • Warrior: Soldiers, houscarls, barbarians, and bodyguards. The "muscular normal map" group.

Who will it affect? At the moment, I'm working towards affecting every named human and elf female in the core game. After that, I'll look into procedurally generated NPCs and DLC characters.

Why only human/elf female NPCs? There is a much larger variety of female body mods. I can only think of a handful of body mods for beast races and males, and certainly not enough to fill all four demographics. If/when I have something to show for this mod, I'll see about requesting specialized assets for beasts and men.

Update!

Finished a simple framework. It works on a basic level, though it only supports Nords atm and non-unique NPCs have issues. Once the remaining races are added and I squish a small bug with facial textures, I can begin to populate my formlists for an alpha release.

I have a few screenshots of it in action. What is a good photo uploader that people around here like to use?

The Next Step:

- Support for all humanoid races

- Fix facial complexions and textures

- Add all Whiterun citizens for testing

Current Development Hurdles:

This section is for any questions and problems I'm having with development, both current and anticipated.

  • Non-unique NPCs of the same form will change en masse when one of them is set to a new race. If I change one to Mature and later another to Young, they will all end up being Young.

Suggestions and criticism are welcome!

Cool idea.  I've seen a few mods that attempted similar things, and all of them used the SkyProc method.  In particular Everybody's Different http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34637// and Realistic Body System http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23311//.  I think JoshNZ was also considering one.

None of this is meant to discourage you from taking the track that you are, but maybe something in their approaches could help give a perspective on alternate approaches.

Either way, I will keep an eye on this.  Very intrigued by the idea, and hope that it goes well for you.

@Seijin8 : I had completely forgotten about SkyProc! That'll be a huge help for allowing customization in the finished mod, thanks!

@Jenova23 : I'm down to collaborate if you want to. Send me a PM if you want to compare notes!

After I finished the framework, I had to move to a different project. I do plan to return to this at the beginning of my school term, but it's been suspended for now.

Expect an update in ~two weeks.
