Adam Jensen Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 What you just said it's exactly why I brought this idea. People keep saying that every mod/quest/dungeon/etc should be within Skyrim, but the truth is, city cells are already full of navmesh and tons of clutter. When you have multiple mods in the same cell and people start altering navmesh, that's when things get ugly. Take for example The Bannered Mare. For some reason, everyone thinks it's a great idea to put npcs in that tavern and at one point, I had so many npcs in the tavern (which were tied to different quests like Wyrsmtooh and Interesting Npcs) that they would clash and crash my game.
Valgo Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I gotta admit: I am not a big fan of this idea. Even if you say 'it won't be all about sex' I am pretty sure it would totally be like that. Let's go to Sex Islands, where everything can fuck you and you can fuck everything too....nah I am kinda kidding but you get the point don't you I would prefer to have adult quests and stuff in inside of skyrim. WaxenFigures idea on the other hand sounds a bit better. Reminds me of the Mod 'Sea of Ghosts'. I loved it. But after all I am just a lurker and user and not a modder and this are just my two cents about this whole topic. If somebody would do it, I would at least give it a try and maybe you guys surprise me and it is awesome. Let me make one thing clear before we continue discussing this. I did not posted this in the adult section because I want a sex island. By adult themes I mean a lot more than just an island where you can have sex with anyone. If anything I would like this island to have the atmosphere and themes of something like Witcher 2, where adult themes are seamlessly integrated and do no feel by any means forced. Adult themes also mean a lot more than just sexlab with a bunch of hookers. This would involve politics, the value of human life (the slaver quest which isn't there just for the sake of using zaz), etc. My idea is to create a place with no central government figures which leads to events such as slavery. Now that Waxen has given the archipelago idea, this could turn into some sort of piracy themed mod (think of black flag). But please, do not misinterpret my original post, for I rarely suggest ideas that add sex without any meaning whatsoever. I totally know what you meant. The thing is just that i fear it wouldn't turn out like that if it should ever be created. But I gotta say, that Waxenfigures description got me hyped a bit. Maybe that could be something very cool, but it is in my nature to fear the worst rather than believe in the best outcome. That was never meant to be offensive.
Adam Jensen Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 Oh I know. I wasn't angry or anything, just in case, I just wanted to make my point clearer to avoid any more misunderstandings !
theluc Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 i do admit that being kind of tired of all the work involved just to make mods and the game work properly without messing around a separate all in one mod is a good idea
Zadil Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Having a place in Skyrim dedicated to this community seems like a nice idea, and one that would be fun to work on. As I (and others too, it seems) see it, the most critical aspect of it would be integration, to which I see two possible approaches: A centralized hub that acts as a gateway to each modder's proprietary workspace. Advantages would be that there would be no unwanted or inadvertend edits of other people's work, but would also mean that interaction between modders' works would be inherently limited due to them taking place in relatively isolated environments (which, if I understood correctly, was one of the points of the whole idea in the first place). A possible solution to that would be for a modder to propose their mod idea in the forums and then just use a shared workspace together with other interested modders and the possibility for other to join if they want to. A consequence would be increased communication between modders and integrity of their work in the sense that the contributions would work towards a common goal.Just to throw random examples of such a 'gateway' system out there (who may or may not suck): A bard whose stories/dialogue options lead to a different modder's work. A library with books that contain tales of different locations and 'immerse' the player in (similar to the Myst game series years ago) A temple with different teleportation shrines (similar to the assortment in the Temple of the Divines in Solitude) A gateway hall in form of a dream when going to bed and wearing a special artefact. ...implementations like these would be easy to expand upon and maintain due to being somewhat modular in design. The other way of doing things would be to have a single common workspace for all contributers, allowing for tighter integration of different components, but also increasing the chance of resulting in pure chaos due to putting together elements that are tailored towards completely different goals/tastes and break the whole atmosphere, and also making it harder for all involved to keep a good overview. How much of a problem that is would depend on the number of potential contributers and their visions, but if done right could lead to amazing results. So I guess what I'm saying is that it's all gonna come down to communication and at least some kind uniformity concerning the whole experience and maybe even lore to tie the whole thing together. With enough people interested in adding their ideas it might very well, if I may say so, kick ass.
