Errors embedding linked images?

I've done this lots of times before on LL and don't usually have a problem, but lately I've been getting a generic error when trying to embed an image (with the "Other Media" tab.), where the text field you paste the URL into just goes red. No message or error code.

I thought I'd found a workaround, because I tried to take the 's' out (some forums have problems with https, I've noticed), but then I at least got an error with an actual message stating LL won't upload unsecure images (which is good!). I noticed that when I put the s back in the url, LL seemed to accept it so then I could add the image after all.

 

Or not. The images only displayed in my post because they were in my cache, when the embeds are broken for anyone else.

 

Is this like the issue maitrarosy posted about earlier today about attachments, in that LL is just under load sometimes and wigs out? I would have thought that embeds would be less of a problem than attachments?
