feitanzz Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Greetings everyone, I was about to start another modded playthrough of skyrim when to my surprise, I've discovered T. making the journey even more confusing for modding in general releasing a new version (type?) of Skyrim, namely, the Anniversary edition. Now after some research my question is: which version should i pick for a modded playthrough? Special edition 1.5.97 or Anniversary edition 1.6.353? Are there any difference concerning mod compatibility for each version? Which one has more working mods available? Is T. going to patch Skyrim still? Should I be worried? I just need some pointers on where to start, but the more the info the better. Thank you everyone.

IMO there is no reason to be on 1.6+ yet. You can still access the free CC stuff and new assets (if you update through Steam and then manually restore the skyrimse.exe and binkw64.dll files, or if you use the downgrade patcher best of 2 worlds? or something, not the full downgrade). Nearly every mod from the past years is ready to use with 1.5.97, while there are still some things missing on 1.6+. In both cases you'll need to keep an eye out for mods mentioning any specific game or SKSE versions so you can install the ones you need and not incompatible ones. 31 minutes ago, feitanzz said: Are there any difference concerning mod compatibility for each version? Which one has more working mods available? The only noticeable difference is in SKSE plugins (mods with a dll file). If you choose to stay/rollback to 1.5.97 you'll need to find said mods made for 1.5.97. If you choose to go with 1.6+ you'll need to find the same mods for that version. And install the proper SKSE version too (2.0.20 for SE 1.5.97 and 2.1+ for SE 1.6+). 33 minutes ago, feitanzz said: Is T. going to patch Skyrim still? Should I be worried? You should disable automatic updates on Steam. That is enough to stop automatic updates 99% of the times. For the other 1% of user error/software shenanigans you can rollback or manually restore a few files to stay on the game version you want.
feitanzz Posted March 7, 2022 Author Posted March 7, 2022 Ok, thank you. I'll also read your guide, never hurt to read some more on the argument. Cheers.
