Sgt. Marge Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 DC Guards Are Now Women View File DC Guards Are Now Women Intended for use with a new game What does this do? This mod changes all the Diamond City guards to females, with the exception of Danny Sullivan (because he's so dreamy...) How do they Sound? The guards still use the male guard voices for now. I'm still learning, and do not know exactly what method to employ to remove the voice. It might simply be a matter of adding a new voice record into the mod and changing all their voices to it, but I don't know if that means they wont have any dialogue, lip-syncing, etc. My goal would be to maintain the text dialogue but remove the audio. I may upload a different version in the future to address this. So for now, you can either turn down the volume when you pass them, or speak loudly over top of them in a high pitched voice while reading the subtitles. Pretend they are all synths and the institute accidentally gave them all the wrong voice modulation masks and Piper was right all along and as a result Darth Vader is over there speaking like a girl from Fah Habah. Perhaps they simply smoked way too many cigars at the nightly Poker Game in Geneva's room. Maybe it's the rads... How do they look? I copied the various properties from "WorkshopNPCGuard "Settler" [NPC_:001167A5]" into each guard record for the look while making every effort to not break their AI and stuff. I then customized them to have different vanilla hairstyles, hair colors and eye colors. Feel free to use xEdit and change them to your liking. You could even add a hair mod as a master to this one, load this after the hair mod, and try using whatever hair you want. The hairstyles: Frazzled, Wendy the Welder, No Nonsense, Femme Fatale, Crazy Morning, Rough Night, Young at Heart and Public Defender. Will this take up an esp spot? This plugin is esp-FE meaning it is "esl flagged esp file" and doesn't take up any room on your load order. Requirements? Nothing special, but here's a fun fact. One of the guard records (DiamondCitySecurityUpper01 [NPC_:00002F6F]) gets forwarded to DLCCoast which is the Far Harbour DLC, so I forwarded that one. But there's no changes in between the core game and the DLC, so this mod only needs Fallout.esm as a master. Compatibility: Armorsmith Extended has a known bug that makes the DC guards partially naked. There's a patch for it here: Armorsmith Extended Diamond City Guard Patch I did open this up with awkcr / ae in xedit and didn't see any conflicts, but they do modify leveled lists for the guards if I recall correctly. If you aren't getting female guards, and you've started a new game with this mod enabled, you may need to open all your mods in xEdit (FO4Edit) and see what is causing the problem. If there is an issue, it may be possible to forward the records from the other mod along with this one into a patch. Spoiler These are the vanilla records that this modifies EncSecurityDiamondCityTemplate00 "Diamond City Security" [NPC_:00002F63] EncSecurityDiamondCityM01 [NPC_:00002F66] LvlSecurityDiamondCity [NPC_:00002F69] DiamondCitySecurityLower01 [NPC_:00002F6C] DiamondCitySecurityUpper01 [NPC_:00002F6F] DiamondCitySecurityOfficeAlways01 [NPC_:00002F70] LvlSecurityDiamondCityExterior [NPC_:000197CC] DiamondCitySecurityWall01 [NPC_:00028ED5] DiamondCitySecurityMayorAlways [NPC_:000F61B5] EncSecurityDiamondCityM02 [NPC_:000F61BA] DiamondCitySecurityMarket01Bat [NPC_:0012B980] DiamondCitySecurityOfficeAlwaysSandbox01 [NPC_:001404D8] DiamondCitySecuritySchoolhouse01Bat [NPC_:001456F7] Thanks: Huge thank you to @gravechild3 for requesting this mod, I enjoyed learning more about NPC records while making it. Notes: - In the screen shots I'm using Classy Chassis Outfits - Vulgar Villains (replacer version) by GrafPanzer which includes the DC Guard outfit. - This mod is really just a patch, I make no claims to it. If anyone wants to make changes and upload their own version, just send me a link and I'll link to it. You don't have to, but it would be cool to see what other people do with it. - I tested this mod a few times, and did not run into any issues. If I missed any guards, please press the ~ key, and left click on the guard, and give me a screen shot. I'm pretty sure I got them all but you never know. Future Plans: - Might look into fixing / removing the voice - Maybe add some different skin tones Submitter Marg597 Submitted 02/19/2022 Category Other Requires Fallout 4 2
Sgt. Marge Posted February 20, 2022 Author Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) This reply is a reservation for future notes or things that I forgot to say and don't want to update the entire mod to say. Stuff like that. Hope you like the mod! 1. Will this work in an existing game? - Maybe, you might have to wait somewhere else for the cell to reset. (3 game days?) - I don't recommend adding mods to an existing game (and most definitely do not remove mods in an existing game) - If you try it, make sure to find your saves folder and back up your saves somewhere else first. Then install the mod when your character is no where near DC, because this mod also changes the guards outside. Wait a few in game days and then check the guards outside. If they are still male, then it didn't work. You could then revert back to the previous save from your backup folder and safely remove the mod. That way it's as if you never installed it. But if it does work for you, let me know so I can update these rambling instructions. Edited February 20, 2022 by Marg597
Senator Blutarsky Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 If you are concerned about the voice acting or anything maybe just add some more DC guards who are female and record some new voice lines? I don't want to knock your vision and I like the Idea but I'm just thinking it might be easier to do than to worry about conflicts and such or issues w the base game.

I don't want to knock your vision and I like the Idea but I'm just thinking it might be easier to do than to worry about conflicts and such or issues w the base game. Thanks for the ideas. There's a mod on the nexus that adds female guards, called Female Diamond City Security so I wouldn't want to duplicate that effort and it should be compatible with this one. Some of the thoughts I've had regarding the voice: - get a professional to record the same dialogue lines that are already in the game and simply overwrite the same voice files with new ones. I would want it to sounds really good if I was to do that, because it gets too jarring to hear voice acting on potato quality equipment. But it feels like an out of reach option due to potential costs and time commitment. - create blank voice files with the same length as vanilla, same file names and overwrite them This is likely the most promising and easy to manage, but need to learn more about lip files if they need to be generated - Make my own guard dialogue with blank voice files, if I was really ambitious this would take the most research and work probably, and I would have to make sure it was feasible and not break stuff The main thing I'd want to make sure of is that any replacement guard dialogue would also give the same pointer quests to the Combat Zone etc. I'm leaning towards the second option. I'm very used to silenced voice lines and it might be the easiest to implement. Just a matter of finding the time to work it out. There's at least 2 adult mods (not sure about linking to them from the non adult section? So I'll just say it's Nuka Ride and Raider Pet and maybe others) that add additional text lines to the DC guards, so I would be somewhat wary about adding more.
Senator Blutarsky Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 There is a mod tool out there that I saw that lets you change the pitch of existing voice files I never messed w it but if I can find the link I’ll post it it might be a third option. 1
Blaze69 Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) My suggestion re: voices would be to pick at least two existing vanilla voices (like FemaleBoston and FemaleRaider, for example), use xVASynth to generate matching sound files for the the DC Guard lines, and then check the DC Guard dialogue quest/INFOs to make sure they don't specifically check for the vanilla male voices only (and edit that check to include whichever vanilla voices you picked if they do). That way they get to keep the same lines they used to say, and still have working combat/generic dialogue otherwise (since they'd still be using shared vanilla voices). Main downsides to it are there may be a shitton of voice lines you'd have to generate, manually rename, and place in the right filepath, though. Also xVASynth ain't that good so most voices will sound a bit robotic at best. Edited February 20, 2022 by Blaze69 1

That's a cool idea also, it crossed my mind but I hadn't tried to find anything for it. If you find the link let me know, at least I could check it out. @Blaze69 That is also a cool idea. I've played some Skyrim mods that started doing this (Survival, Devious Followers) and at times it sounded ok, other times pretty disjointed. But the fact that the technology is getting this far is really neat. It would be a good excuse to at least try it and see what I can come up with. I think Amorous Adventures did a great job of changing vanilla voice lines but my recollection is that they (mostly) used existing words which is probably why it sounded at least passable. It's not really in the same ballpark but something I just remembered.
reconphil Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Is there a way to mix it up, some women & some men?

Good question, I was actually thinking about that earlier today. I don't have any plans right now to make a mixed gender version available but I'm happy to support (or at least attempt to support) people that want to do different things. If you have some knowledge with xEdit (also known as FO4Edit, same program), you could simply remove a couple of the records in the spoiler in the download page to get some men back. And if you've never used xEdit before, what better way to learn than with this little patch that won't break the game (probably). You could open ~ the console and click on a guard to see which ID they belong to. Removing that ID from the mod would make any guard that spawns with that ID back to a male. For example, if you remove the record "DiamondCitySecurityMarket01Bat [NPC_:0012B980]" from my mod, it should change that guard that stands in the market with a bat back into a male, but you'd have to wait for cell reset or test it with a new game*. I think "DiamondCitySecurityMayorAlways [NPC_:000F61B5]" is the one that stands in front of the Mayors door. *If you want to test by making a new game, I suggest using something like SKK Fast Start + Fast Start Location or make a save after leaving the vault and use this console command which would teleport you to right near the entrance: coc DiamondCityExt03

There are some records I am not sure of, so I have to be careful. I would like to find a way to make it random. I'm not sure if it is possible. 1

Senator Blutarsky Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 (edited) In all honesty I would rather use this mod cause it’s not from nexus. Nexus can suck all of my balls. i don’t need nexus stealing shit I made. No one wants that. Edited February 22, 2022 by Senator Blutarsky 2
Blackadder6 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 The female vault 81 guard seems to have enough voice lines you could use. 1
Sgt. Marge Posted February 27, 2022 Author Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) ? Maybe... Swatter.mp3 Edited February 27, 2022 by Marg597
gravechild3 Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) No idea why or what happened, but I changed the voice in your mod to 'Null' and now the guards just have a single line in a female voice. Its a placeholder until you can get something better, I guess. (single line, being along the lines of "yes?") Edit: the Riley encounter still has male voiced guards. Other than that, no male voices, but I didn't read the voice line in your mod said, so it might just be reverting back or using generic female lines. Edited February 27, 2022 by gravechild3 1
