What's needed to get "Hairworx" hair working?

I decided to attempt to get "Hairworx" moving hairs working in H5-Unlocked.

I re-installed my video card driver with PhysX support included, then I added:

1) Copy/Pasted contents of: "! Hook5 Additional All in One\Hairworks binaries\Binaries\" & "! Hook5 Additional All in One\HBAO binaries\Binaries\" to my "Binaries" folder

2) Copy/Pasted some of the "PhysxAndHairworksReplacers\K17_hook5_additional\" txx replacer hairs to my Addons folder as test.

...but when I test them, they don't move. What am I missing? Thx.

The #000.UniversalVXHairworksReplacer and #000.UniversalVXPhysXReplacer files must be in the Addons folder. So that they are universal and a separate version is not needed for every adapted hair...
As a result, the customized hair versions offered on pervok's Patreon page have the same filenames in R9Hair007.png and R9Hair007_pass file for Hairworks and R9Hair006.png and R9Hair006_pass file for Physx.

I've attached two examples of hair...

Big thx.

Oddly, the "#000.UniversalVXHairworksReplacer" Addon you provided is larger than the one included in the archive (and the one on Pervo's download page.)

I didn't realize only AM versions of the hairs actually move, and the H5 archive does not include any AM files/folders.

Is there a library of converted hairs for download somewhere? I have no idea what ".apx", ".h5s" & ".RepX" files are. ?

The hair does not move by itself. pervok had made a few and shared them on his Patreon page. Only this hair moves...

PhysX have an armature and the bones move parts of the hair, e.g. braids... I like this version best ?

apx hairs are "controlled" by the Nvidia machine (as far as I understand it ;o) and can be modified with the _pass file, e.g. longer, denser...
Many different versions of R9Hair179 have already been offered for download on MG...

Thx. Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains how to create moving hairs? They appear to require special files in a format I'm unfamiliar with.

There are a bunch of Hair TXX files in the H5U archive, that I have no idea how to turn into moving hairs. They don't even include icons so you know what shape hair they are intended to modify.

I don't care which files these are - they work ?

I saved myself a tutorial for Hairworks anyway (it's a pity I can't remember the creator), but haven't gotten around to trying it out yet...

The hair can be recognized by the icons, blue for Hairworks and green for PhysX, and their name appears in the top left (see image). I've also attached one of the latest hairworks by pervokpetr. All I had to do was place the UniversalVXHairworksReplacer in the Addons folder and the hw_casual04 file in the activemod folder (the binaries were already there ?)...

Thanks. By "no icon", I meant the TXX files included in the H5U archive contain just one folder ("Scenes"), so if a TXX is intended to modify a particular hair, there's no way to know w/o installing it. (Notice that the Base hairs will have the text on them too, but only the AM versions move.)

The name of the guide is "RK HairWork Replacer Guide", so it must have been written by "Raistin Kane".

Big thanks. I'll look it over and see if I can't figure out how to convert existing hairs to moving ones. (We should start an Uploads section just for Moving Hairs.)

I have a bit of a mystery:

I have moving hairs working using the "Universal" hair addons (R9Hair06 & R9Hair07), but I can't get the provided 010, 179 & 268 Hairworx replacers to install (icon does not change and AM versions based on them don't move.)

I noticed that there are two versions of these three addons in the H5U archive (versions in the "New replacers" folder vs versions in the "K17_hook5_additional" folder. Same timestamp but different sizes.) I tried both versions but neither worked. Is there even a difference in the files?

I can't imagine I'm missing anything critical if the "Universal" based hairs work but these 3 replacers don't. ?

Any ideas?

As I wrote in one of the posts above, all PhysX and Hairworks images and _pass files have the same frame number.

R9Hair007.png and R9Hair007_pass file for Hairworks and R9Hair006.png and R9Hair006_pass file for Physx.

This is the price for using the "Universal" hair addons - did you think of that?

I'm trying to enable the "Hair 179" collection you posted above.

Assuming the AM textures in each folder are correctly named, they don't use the universal "R9Hair007" addon (they are all named "R9Hair179*.*". Even with the "#000.HairworksReplacerHair179" addon installed, they don't work. :(

No, they are all incorrectly named, so I mentioned this twice already. In each folder, the image R9Hair179.png must be correctly named R9Hair007.png. Likewise, the R9Hair179_pass.txt file in each folder must be named R9Hair007_pass.txt file...

In addition, the R9Hair179.apx is not present in every file in the hairpacks, you have to copy it into it ?

Ah! Thanx.

They're all missing ".apx" files! THAT was the key! No need to rename them all. I just took the apx file from another hair, copied it to the folder of the Hairworx179 hair I was trying to get working, renamed it, and Viola'! Moving hair!

Each .apx file is a different shape, so chose wisely, [Scratch that. A few tests show it doesn't seem to matter] but no need to rename every texture to "R9Hair007". Just add an apx file to each one. ;)

Bravo, Oystermug, long things take time...

Before there is another misunderstanding, especially among other readers, I would like to clarify once again -

if you use the UniversalVXHairworksReplacer and the UniversalVXPhysXReplacer and no other individual hair replacers, you have to name the image and _pass files 006 and 007.

The .apx files are adapted to a mesh. You cannot use Haar 268's .apx for Haar 179 by renaming the .apx or changing the _pass file. The result is not the same!
