If EA was smart they would pay modders like Whicked whims when sims 5 comes out

If I'm wrong, then so is the Wiki

Neither the Wiki, nor the forum post it was wholesale copy-pasted from are wrong, but you are certainly reading it wrong it seems like.

In nowhere they state or claim that the video resolution MUST be 256x144. NOWHERE!
The original author just CHOSE to use that resolution, as it was the same as the base game channels' videos were using.

Here, I quote the relevant parts:

Quote

The width has to be a multiple of 32 and the height a multiple of 16. So I decided to use the same as the original tv channel videos: 256x144 Pixel.

...

Load your file into the tool, select "AVI" in Preset, and on the right side, click on the magic wand.
In the appearing window, you need to set the following video parameters:

  • Container: AVI
  • Video-Codec: MPEG4
  • Frames per Second: 15
  • Bitrate: As input file
  • Width: <Multiple of 32> (e.g. 256)
  • Height: <Multiple of 16> (e.g. 144)

I must stress this as not even Maxis uses that crappy resolution for in-game videos anymore.

Look, here's the mediainfo for one of the movies I just extracted from SP05, as you can see it's clearly larger then 256x144.

Well as 256x144 is what I'm told to use as THAT information is based on THE DOCUMENTATION, I'm going to stick with that Far be it for ME to question A TUTORIAL)

I could GIVE A FUCK what Maxis uses NOW as until the documentation is updated, I have to go by what is documented (As we all do or should)

Besides, one is simply quoting the other & NO other resolution is mentioned BUT 256x144

So if were you, I would see how well (If AT ALL) your video plays in the game (If the game CAN play it without crashing)

Okay, I will tap out at this point.
I tried to help by expanding your insight on the matter with some of my first hand experiences, but if you wanna stick to your guns - which in this case is an 8 years old post  that was literally written just weeks after the Sims4 came out in 2014, - then be my guest.

Peace out! ?

That original forum thread from ModTheSims is NOT based on a "DOCUMENTATION", as there is no official documentation on the process of how to encode videos into a game compatible format. It's just a bunch of people trying to reverse engineer the process through mostly trial-and-error, and sharing their experiences by doing so... You would have known that if you'd actually bothered to read the whole thread. But you didn't, did you. ;)

Oh, don't you just worry about little old me. Me and my mod are just doing fine. :)

So you can just debug them to get them to go to the chefs station? Cool, now my sims can enjoy asking people out on dinners again! I'll go test at once!

Reset Objects (debug) - seems to work so far. You can use Weerbasu UI Cheats, MCCC or Carl's fixes to make the restaurant (dine out) DLC work properly but it is a hassle and EA don#t give a flying f*ck about fixing it...

Carl's fixes should be somewhere on his patreon. I found his waiters fix:

Sadly I no longer have to nor mod or fix The Sims 4 for EA.

It does play well. I'm using cinerotic tv mod and video are at 512x288p resolution. For patreon, resolution is 1280x720p.

Since Carl managed to fix the restaurants with relative ease (he is by his own words fairly new to modding), I find it a tad peculiar that the Sims team themselves don't fix them. I'm fairly sure that if they had asked Carl to use his mod as a small update, he'd happily say yes.

With WW you get either the public or Patreon version. I think Turbo makes good money with this mod, more per month than I've ever done as an engineer, by about a factor of 4. He was pretty smart to get into the business and corner the market. The problem with Patreon is that it has to be kinda prudish and meeting US law. Funny about that... I guess EA decided not even to try to release the latest pack in Russia because of the laws there are a kind of inversion from US laws.

Which is all sort of silly. I play Fallout 4 and murder half the Commonwealth, but even though murder is illegal in both US and Russia, the game is legal in both. Somehow, they make the distinction between a game and reality for murder, and but not for sex. Game murder is fake, but game sex is real sex. It's just a game! And half the fun in any game is doing outrageous things like shooting Preston Garvey or being a succubus and hosting an orgy.

What made you think I needed help with video resolution??

I'm sticking with what the documentation says to do. WTF is wrong with that??

If it doesn't work, then I'll likely pick something more common like 640x360 or 480p widescreen

Yeah it'll SUCK to re-encode all of the HOURS of video I have but if I have to do it, I have to do it. Ohh fucking well…
