Several Questions

Hello, I've recently decided to join this community because of how well things run around here and the abundant amount of modders. As such with so many mods and modders existing complications tend to happen and technical issues arise. Specifically I have issues with Skyrim as that is what I'm trying mod right now but that is irrelevant at the moment.

The point of this thread was to get some answers to some generic questions that tend to exist in other forums yet I haven't really seen any massive guidelines for them.

1. Are new people (i.e me) allowed to just randomly request things that are within reason (things that can't really be answered by a quick search and read). There are several issues that I want to deal with in terms of mods in Skyrim hence I'm going to make a new thread later on in the Skyrim section if I'm allowed to.
2. Since the questions that are being asked cover multiple subjects of interest (Non-adult, adult and technical help) What thread should I really be posting in?
3. Are there any threads that are a must read here in this forum? I've been looking around for stickied rules and guidelines and I've only really found the one about being nice to modders and not being jerks and your common law-abiding good Samaritan sort of situation.

Thanks in advance and I'll probably doing a lot of lurking unfortunately as I don't have any skills in the modding department. (I rarely do ask for help because it tends to be bothersome for people to help someone who hasn't given anything in return.)

Hey, welcome to the Lab.

Try to open new threads only if there aren't any that fit the bill and yes you can start threads or post away.  We are very relaxed here and there are no minimum post counts or any of that jazz here.

Requests are iffy.  Your best bet is to find a modder that is taking requests and ask in his thread if he will tackle it.  If you can't find anyone taking requests then open a thread.  Just be aware that there are only a few folks with the skills to port things.

Always open threads in relevant areas (skyrim questions in the skyrim section and so on).

If you are posting multiple questions in one thread (this is preferred rather than opening a half dozen threads all over the place) and any (or all) of the questions are about adult content then post in the Adult section.  If the questions don't have any adult content in them the post where it seems most appropriate.

Mostly the Pinned threads in the sections you are browsing are what is important to read, such as the pinned thread in the technical help section and so on.

Cheers,

Greg

Well welcome and enjoy your stay. If you still feel unsure of what to post and where. Take some time and read the various post in areas that you are interested in. You will soon have all the answers you need. As Greg stated LL is very relaxed.Perhaps you can go to the Big Board of Fun and have some fun posting and meeting some of the LL members. Sort of get comfortable. I enjoyed my time there when I first started posting there while making a few friends as well.

This is a site where you can learn as much as you are willing to put in the time to learn. Feel free to read up and if there are questions post. If there are no post on that subject .. post one. Many people here started out just like you with limited or no experience and are now making mods.

People on this site are generally helpful and kind. They are willing to help those who want to help themselves. This also includes learning the tools and tricks to making mods. There is no reason that you can start learning to and actually start making mods. This community will help you understand and learn the various tools and techniques needed to do so if you are willing to put in the hard work.

Bottom line is there is no reason to be a lurker. This isn't the Nexus ;) ( LL inside joke, you will get it soon enough)
