Pavlovian Afterdark Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Good Day/Night or in the middle everyone. Just started this topic because i wanted to ask about Updating Skyrim SE to the newest version, is it safe? i mean, if labs mods will not break? im runing the version 1.5.97.0 of SE and havent downloaded neither the 15gb Update from october and neither the 5gb that came on december. im in no rush to Update, its just that i just finished a playthrough and i think its a good time to Update. Thanks in advance Sorry for the messy writting, english is not my native lenguage. If i posted this on the wrong section, tell me and i will remove it or move to the corresponding section.
Michele Magus Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I recommend waiting. Many major mods still need their DLL files updated, and SKSE is still being worked on as well. Skse is opearational, not not yet at 100% as far as I know.
LesboIsBesto Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 if u still on 1.5.97, stay there. This thread will tell you whats been updated for AE but its still not worth it really. Far more mods support SE than AE. If you wanna prevent any forced updates to SE, find the file "appmanifest_489830.acf" in the steamapps folder & set it to read only, Steam wont be allowed to update it for anything. Just keep usin skse or your manager to launch the game too. If you do update by accident, you can use this mod to reverse it
ttts1 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 check the compatibility thread: Since AE is so new, there are going to be frequent updates from Bethesda which may break SKSE and mods. Stability is going to be a problem for months, I would suspect. Also, I am not sure how many mods are updated for AE (or need to be). Remember that modders are basically live-testing this along with players since everything is so new. I personally will wait another 6 months or a year before I switch. That is, if I switch. There are a variety of reasons why AE may never match SE/LE in terms of mods. It's been over a decade and many great mods are no longer updated and will probably never move over into AE. That's just my opinion, others may view it differently. Check the compatibility thread if you want to know what's going to work and what will not.
Pavlovian Afterdark Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 Thanks you all for the clarification, i will stay on 97 then.
Kain82 Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 I accidentally updated to the AE version, because I forgot I was playing on a new PC and forgot to disable auto updates. But anyway what's done is done. Luckily for me most of the SKSE mods I use have been updated to AE. Mods like RaceMenu which are in beta still works fine on AE at least for me. SexLab has been updated. CEO has returned and is working on a new version of OSA/OSex that will be compatible only with AE. Flower Girls works with any version of SE/AE. SkyUI still works too. There are only two SKSE mods I used that have not been updated yet. One, is OStim which may never be updated because there's been a falling out between the OStim creator Sairion and OSA/OSex creator CEO. But okay whatever. A must have mod for me that has not been updated and I hope it eventually will is AddItem Menu. I know I can downgrade but I'm a man that accepts their choices and mistakes and never looks back.

You create a backup folder for Skyrim SE (just copy/paste the entire Skyrim folder into a backup file somewhere besides your Steam folder) if you have the space on your hard drive. That way you can use your back up if you accidentally update to AE. A backup will also allow you to test AE and see if have any problems. If it breaks things, just delete your Skyrim folder and replace it with your backup. If you've already got the AE update and used the downgrade patch then there's no reason to create a backup.

Could you please clarify, like i said before i havent even read what this updates contain. because i was not interested in updating nor buying a new version of the same game.
ttts1 Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 AE is built upon SE. It is not separate like LE was set apart from SE. AE is basically an updated SE, with (what I understand to be) changes to benefit Bethesda's ability to monetize mods. I'm sure there are other changes as well, I'm not an expert. I don't think there will ever be an SE update now, any update since November would be Anniversary Edition. Any version of SE will automatically update to AE in Steam (if you are a Steam user). If you installed the game or have had an updated since early November, then you updated to AE. You can check the file version in Steam to see which version you are running (which you posted above, obviously). So a backup may be useful if you planned for this before AE release. I don't know how different a SE version is from AE with the downgrade patch, I just don't know. But if you already had AE and used the downgrade patch, there really is no point in having a backup file. If something goes wrong just reinstall AE and use the downgrade patch again.
