Animation help: how to move/sway hips

Recommended Posts

Playing some more with animations but I'm stumped as to how to manipulate the bones to move/sway the hips like so:

Is there an easy way to do this? There's no 'hip' bone - just Spine, Spine1, Spine2, and the thighs and none of them seem to affect the hips..or do they?

I can open an existing animation but it's hard to tell what changes are being made to the bones rotation/translation in blender - is there an easy way to see that as well?

I'd appreciate any help you can give a noob :)

Pelvis is what you are looking for.

What you are looking at is probably a rig someone has built to make the movements like they have.  With a rig you can move one bone and others are moved as well.  This makes animating a great deal easier for stuff like dancing and finger movements.

Unfortunately building a rig is not exactly simple.  I haven't ventured into attempting it myself as there is just too much I still don't get right now and I don't have the time to spend on it.

Ahh ok - pelvis moves the ENTIRE body around its axis, not just the pelvis :/ I guess what the rig does is keep other bones relatively stationary, but not completely so you can move the body in a more natural way.

Yeah it might take some time to learn how to rig - anyone out there have any experience with it?

Thanks greg!
