Deimos Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Back in January and February the game at most with alot of npcs fighting on the screen it would only hit 63c, now it hits 65c just walking around and 69c in any fights even small ones. At First I thought it was maybe dust or other programs running or the ambient temp (close to summer here) but the temps are normal on every other game even GW2, all my mods are the same just upto date. I'm completely lost on what to do next any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ark of Truth Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Nothing to worry about, that's pretty standard for a CPU. You have nothing to worry about, if you still think it is a problem apply some thermal paste or gel.
Deimos Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 Its a definite problem as the cpu's tjmax is 70c and has shutdown while playing before, it also has thermal paste applied most recently December it was arctic silver and it was applied correctly.
Ark of Truth Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Maybe it's not your CPU but your graphics card. The temps you have listed for your CPU are pretty much average temps for a CPU.
Deimos Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 I've checked my gpu its running a cool 30c idle and 70c under heavy load.
Crashdown Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Those temps are "normal" and the PC should not shutdown, unless its set on the BIOS.Can you post a pic of your cooler? maybe its time for look a new one... Also are you sure its a temp problem and no a component problem?
Groovtama Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 If I has to guess I would guess its your psu thats because cpu 70°C and GPU also, are pretty normal also what cpu has tjmax on 70°C? Also Tjmax is for throotling not for shut down that's 90-105 on auto, depending on what CPU you have, or depending what you set in the bios. Try another programm for the temps AIDA or something, use FurMark and Prime to get your CPU and GPU on Full Load, also test your memory then you can test the psu it may be dieing/bugged depending on your manufactorer.
Endiness Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Hardware monitor can provide temps for most of the components in your pc.
Deimos Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 I'm running a Phenom 2 x4 955 BE stock cooler with a haf 922 case for decent aiflow
Bootaka Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Ihad the same CPU not long ago. easy answer = ambient temperature the room your comp is in was colder in Jan/Feb your CPU temperatures are fine. What motherboard are you using? I had simular issues with an older Asus or something board that had a pretty row of capacitors directly under the PCI-e slot.
Deimos Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 I'm running a msi 790fx gd70, as for the ambient temp I'm running an ac in room that keeps it around 50 degrees Fahrenheit at all times.
lordofthedread Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Remove your processor fan and clean it or change it for a better one (this will avoid the cleaning this time). Dont forget to use thermal paste, there are cheap CPU coolers out there that are working a lot better than the stock intel one.
Deimos Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 the gpu is a nvidia 460 se2 gtx and its always ran hot with no issue, as for changing the amd stock hs I've looked into it but have ran into issue with the board refusing to boot with a new hs I've taken it to a local comp store to have them do it and they ran into the same issue.
Rayblue Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Huh? The new heatsink didn't work? What have you bought? Looked into your card's specs and because of its build the 460 eats up 150 watts, more than my HD4670 or a couple of incandescent bulbs. If that's real hot, and if longevity is much of a concern, then again and with some budget, third party air-cooled or liquid cooled solutions may be more attractive options; if I were you with some $200-500 I'd go out and buy a water-cooling system.
Deimos Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 Sadly on a very tight budget, and no the tech shop reasoning for why the new hs didnt work was because the cpu fan connector on the mobo required a direct fan connection else it wouldnt boot I tried a few other hs's that had them as did the comp store with no luck.
Rayblue Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Okay... the other alternative is to connect the HS fan (if the HS has an 80mm fan with a Molex connector) directly to the PSU -- the fan will be on the entire time without much of a problem.
Deimos Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 The stock hs fan isnt a molex, a thought came to me today while playing new vegas and its temps were a bit higher than usual (i played earlier the week) only real change was a few new mods that added quite a few scripts, and I remember I run alot mods with scripts could that be the cause of the high temps.
Rayblue Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Most third party coolers and fans have both connectors for the motherboard and Molex. I don't see why your board doesn't want anything other than a stock fan, but what power supply unit you're using and how much watts does it have? I'm guessing the PSU isn't supplying enough juice to power even the fans. Oh, yes, the more stuff we're running, especially scripts, the more the CPU has to work on.
Deimos Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 I'll have to dig up the box for the psu but I remember it being a 950 watt and maybe 2 years old, and I see.
