In case anyone was wondering, I updated my computer to "Windows 11" this afternoon.

VX works just fine. H5 too. No change.

Yeah, they said they weren't going to fuck with app compatibility like they usually do for new versions. Which is a welcome change.

No - with all partial or full updates I never had any data loss. Only the operation changed...
But to be on the safe side, I also have several backups ?

My only "loss" was "Windows Media Center" (which had to be hacked just to run on Win10) has stopped working (MS has been trying to kill it since Win8.)

It reportedly does work with Win11, but I don't yet know how to fix it w/o reinstalling. :(

Other than that, Win11 is mostly just a Win10 facelift (though some optimizations do improve performance, most notably, my M2 drive.)

UPDATE: Did a full uninstall/reinstall of WMC and it works just fine. Still getting used to some of the changes to the interface.

UPDATE 2: Found my first software incompatibility. The "Kuadro" image overlay tool will not run on Win11 (though old "CThru" still works.) These apps are useful when creating models based on a photograph so you can keep the image on top while editing.) Kuadro never got past the Beta stage in 2014 so there is no update to download.

I just returned from a friends' house. He wanted me to install Windows 11 on his computer (which I built for him just a few years ago.)

The Installer wouldn't let me. His CPU didn't meet "The minimum requirements." ?

He has a reasonably recent Ryzen 3 2200G processor. According to M$'s "CPU Comparability List". the slowest CPU listed in a Ryzen 2300. Only a handful of 2000 series CPU'S are on the list. Nothing older than that is supported.

That's a pretty high bar. He needs new CPU just to "upgrade" to Win11.

It's always the same story with Windows updates.

MS say it will work on recent hardware but in reality it has to be the latest hardware.

In real life, you need a new PC if you want to run the new Windows

Actually, my old PC from 2013 can run it. It's my son's PC now and I enabled TPM just fine. My current rig was easy as pie.

That makes sense (so to speak) As long as a motherboard has TPM support, there's no reason it shouldn't be able to run Windows 11 (for which I am finding bugs left & right. Win11 was NOT ready for Prime Time.)

Does your old 2013 PC have an Intel CPU? I think the CPU requirements for AMD are unnecessarily higher (unverified.)

How is the alt-tab functionality for TK17 in Windows 11? Windows 10 pretty much broke fullscreen alt-tab with Hook5, making it necessary to do a regedit trick as well as always alt-tab when you first start up. If you didn't the screen would go black when trying to alt-tab.

I never tested Alt+Tab from full screen in Windows 10, so I can't say if it's better or worse, but a quick check shows it does not work when using Hook5. TK17 goes black and I must access the Task Manager to end the program.

Works fine w/o Hook (though TK17 must be run in the same resolution it was launched from.)

Thank you, that's helpful. It's a shame this hasn't changed, but hopefully the old Win10 workaround is still good. I guess I'll find out when I upgrade.

I'm keeping a running list of Win11 bugs & lost features. To date, only one has been fixed (in an early Beta update.)

You might want to stick with Win10 for at least another 6 months. Win11 definitely was not ready for Primetime. :(

Thats why i still use Win7?

I'd still be using Win7, but after my MoBo died last year, I was forced to move to Win10 due to a lack of CPU/MoBo support for Win7. :(
