How Can I Delete All Trace of FNIS/Reinstall It? (Online tutorials left out vital info.)

Out of nowhere, my FNIS installation that had worked perfectly for several months through countless uses ceased functioning.  All of a sudden, it couldn't find some temporary file it needed.

 

I can barely use MO2 while following tutorials step-by-step, and definitely have no deep understanding of it.  I certainly can't get creative and do things for which I have no explicit instructions (although I try, anyway...). 

 

Tutorials said that the first step was to delete all trace of FNIS so that it was as if the mod never previously existed on your PC.  Unfortunately for me, they didn't explain how to do that.  I don't even understand why programs you have uninstalled and deleted in MO2 are still, somehow, hanging around when I go to reinstall the program-- why should it matter that a program with the same name was already downloaded if it's really deleted?

 

Anyway, I tried uninstalling/deleting the mod on the MO2 dashboard, then went searching for references to FNIS in the files to delete.  Unfortunately-- again-- some files must not have been so easy to find, because it still remembered what had been previously installed.  Moreover, I can't install FNIS-- in a functioning state-- to save my soul.

 

I am literally at my wit's end.  This is pretty much the only game I play, now, so I really can't play anything with FNIS uninstallable.  Could someone please tell me how to fix this?

 

 

On a separate technical topic, when I tried to log in, I was confronted with some "hCaptcha" thing, and a headache-full of labyrinthine instructions that apparently started out for any user who happened in there, but seamlessly changed to instructions for web page designers.  I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do to get it to work, or why a Captcha feature should require me to download separate software to use it.  It gave a couple of options for avoiding the hCaptcha in the future, the least complicated of which was disinfection of one's computer of the virus that was causing hCaptcha to challenge you.  "I have a virus???"  I ran a scan, and no virus.  I tried logging in, again, and no hCaptcha, either, anymore.

 

Perhaps that was a glitch in the hCaptcha program; but, for a few minutes, I had no idea how I could get back in here.

You find FNIS on your left panel in MO -> right click -> remove mod.

If you have files generated by FNIS in Overwrite or in a separate mod you made for it, also remove it in the same way.

The executable will still be listed, you can remove it if you want, it's of no use since every FNIS related file is gone already.

 

That's it. You shouldn't have any other files from FNIS "hanging around".

 

BTW, there has been a recent Windows update and it has motivated a wave of problems with FNIS and other tools (for FNIS in particular is the Error 76). If that's the case the fix is simply disable Windows Defender before using FNIS. The forum is full of threads about it, a quick google search including the exact error code would be enough to get relevant results. There is a recent thread about the issue I mention, really recent like 6 hours ago, still visible on this forum section.

That's what I did.  I assumed, however, that I must have done it incorrectly because when I tried to follow the installation instructions, again, they didn't work.  I was laboring under the presumption that I had failed to adequately delete the mod, since that was the only step listed before reinstalling it, and I was utterly unable to reinstall it.  Knowing from your message that I had, indeed, properly uninstalled it, I screwed-around with MO2 until-- apparently-- I have reinstalled it.

 

My incompetence with MO2 is virtually limitless, so I'm still holding my breath that everything will ultimately work.

 

Anyway, thanks a lot for the reply, and the notification that that Windows update is probably what screwed-up my installation.
