 [Request] Talking Dovahkiin

Hi,

I am quite in the immersive thing at Skyrim.

So I like  having my char sitting on the campfire with all her  followers and listening to their chat for example.

Or instead of rushing from one dungeon to the other, by running or riding as fast as possible, (or even fast traveling),  just "walk and talk" and enjoy the great skyrim landscape. My Char has to eat and sleep, she needs some "comfort" by close friends sometimes and from time to time she has to go "behind the bushes".
So far, so good.

All this is possible because of great Mods like "3dnpcs", "Vilja", "Camping Light", "wet and Cold","sexis", "Lovers Comfort", "need to urinate", etc.

But there is one thing I am really missing:
She can't talk!

Ok, its not entirely true, because  there are some mods like "Additional Player Voices for Skyrim",  letting her speak a sentence from time to time, triggered by activitys like "drawing weapon" or "go into sneak mode".

But she is not able to give a propper answer to Viljas Question:
"You are so quite. I hope you aren't mad or something?" (Those who are running the mod know what I mean ;-) .

In fact there are plenty of voicelines available, which will do great in almost every situation.
Just have a look at

"http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=51&sort_by=ASC&sort_key=file_name&num=10&st=4".

These are brilliant acted voicefiles from older games like "Baldurs Gate" and others,  available for free. Additionally to that, you can google for free voicefiles and i can tell you from my own experience, you will have a lot of very nice findings very soon.

So the only thing we need, is a mod, which enables us to play this files at the right moment in the game itself.

I had a thing like this already  in Oblivion.
Look at this:

"http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/14659/?tab=1&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D14659%26preview%3D&pUp=1".

(It is probably a newer Version than this i was using at that times).
 Actually It is a CD Player, meant for playing music tracks ingame without having the need to leave the game and switch to desktop. You can chose up to 7 CDs with 9 tracks each CD.

It was referring to *.mp3 Files you could place by yourself into the appropriate folder

I took this little thingy, looked into its scripts and just changed the menuename of CD1, CD2 and CD3 into "negative", "positive" and "neutral". So i had 3 cathegories ingame for my voicefiles.

Under negative i put voicefilesfiles like "no", "Its so cold in here", all kinds of battle crys, etc.
Under positive  I put things like "yes", "what a lovley day", giggles, laughing, etc.
The rest was going under neutral.

Then i changed the Menuenames of Track01, Track02 etc into something more descriptive. (Mostly the first 3 words of my voicefile).
So i was able to find the sentence i wanted to say  very quickly with 2 clicks.

That was doing great for me in oblivion and I had a lot of fun with this. For example you could answer Viljas question mentioned above, with jaheiras voice from baldurs gate saying:

"You are amusing.. in a What_the_hell_is_wrong_with_you kind of way..."

The only shortcoming was, that i couldnt play the original game music tracks any longer , because the cd player was designed to replace the riginal track for the while it was playing.

But i think for an experienced Programmer  / Scripter it would be quite easy to write a mod where we have 3 cathegories (or even more?) to put voicefiles  in.
Ingame it should be an item which could be linked to a shortcut.
So by pressing key  Number "8" e.g. the menu with "positive", "negative" and "neutral" comes up.

Mouseklick on one of the cathegories gives you a list of tracks.

(There was a limit up to 9 in Oblivion. Dont know, whether we have this restriction in Skyrim also).

By default they should be namend like Track01, Track02,  etc., but should be also customizeable ingame.

Youshould be able to give the first few words of your sentence here, like "what a lovley day..", or a short description like "scream", "Giggle" etc., depending on what file you have placed in the appropriate folder earlier.

I have never written a single line of code in my life.So, if i would try to do it by myselfm  I had to start at "0" literally. I guess it will take months before I will have sufficient results.
On the other hand I guess a good Scripter can do this in few days.
Of course you can probably add lipsync, faceexpression etc., if you want. But i suggest to keep it simple for the beginning.

So what do you think?
Are there more people who will enjoy a mod like this?
Is there a Scripter amongst them, willing to create this little piece of jewelry?

Whats the point of it? The NPCs wont 'understand' you,theyll just ignore you

It's just an immersion thing, you know, for fun?

I think this would be great. I don't use the "Additional Player Voices for Skyrim" because the voices don't fit me well so would love an alternative.

Hey, how cool is that? :-)

Though its not exactly what i had in oblivion, it might be even better!

Ok, I haven't the absolute control about what my char will say next, but on the other side, I don't have to go through a menu. I just have to press one key! The game doesn't stop in between.

This is much better, regarding immersion I feel!

I replaced the soundfiles with some from this soundset:

http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/577-pcsoundannah-2-6/

(Annah: a female thief character from Planescape:Tornment.)

 I will just go now  and fumble around with it a little bit, in game.

Thank you 1000 Times b3lisario!!!

Btw.: Would it be possible to enable F3 and F4 also?

I am thinking of F1 to F4 with 10 positions (=soundfiles) each.

F1 = yes

F2 = no

F3 = I feel good

F4 = I feel bad

The soundfiles can just be placeholder - files.

So everyone can replace them with the best matching files for the specific playercharacter.

(Again, i recommend to have a look at

http://www.shsforums...ame&num=10&st=4)

Thanks again b3lisario. ;-)

I'm a big fan of immersion too reason why I played The Old Republic, one of the few games where your player character actually talks. Having that in mind I might add the idea of voicing over those text answers you give in Skyrim dialogue. That would be pretty big project since you would have to cover not only male and female voices, you would have to add different race "tunes" as well to make it sound not hilarious when your orc warrior talks with a squiky teenage voice. Not sure if its possible - I mean possible for free-for-fun modders to take such big step since it would not only consume a lot of time, it would need some cash too for all those voice acting (not everyone has the right posse in stock by coinsidence).
