characters misaligned and hotkeys do nothing

my scenes start the characters are misaligned and i have tried going into the mcm menu and using the hotkeys to move the characters but they don't do anything

You need to use the hotkeys while the animations are playing, not inside menus. If you mean that and still the characters aren't adjusted something else is wrong on your side, hard to tell without more info.
