Daguy Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I've oft sought to love the Witcher, really I have, I have just failed every single time. I've had the first game for years. I even bought the two translated novels to try and interest myself in the setting, but it hasn't worked. I simply don't like Geralt, at all. I don't find the concepts of Witchers intriguing, nor the alchemy. I also don't like the abrupt cuts from scene to scene in the Special Edition version. For example Geralt is leaving the Witchers castle to go work on getting back the potions - suddenly you are in a village with hellhounds outside, everyone knows who you are, and buh. I honestly just found the first Witcher a really forgettable experiance. Yet, games in the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout series manage to such hundreds of hours of playtime out of me without me even really noticing. I have 280+ hours in both Skyrim and New Vegas, but i've never really done much i either. I've not explored even 5% of Skyrim's dungeons and quests, and in New Vegas there are entire areas i've not explored yet, like Black Mountain. At its heart I do think its the characters that turn me away from the Witcher, and thats sad. I'm a huge vampire buff, and i've heard there are plenty in the series and not as mustache twirling villains. I think the only thing that would make the Witcher palatable for me would be not just ten minute segmants as aniother character across a sixty-hour experiance, but to play as another character altogether. I very much prefer playing female protogonists. On that note, modding kit is interesting. If we started getting mods like A Dance with Rogues, i'd likely buy tW2 just to play the mods. I did for NWN. But at the same time, the devs seem to be busy trying to recreate Skyrim, and it'll probobly draw away most of the fans from making content as was mentioned above, and I can already imagine how many of the modules actually made will just be 'another adventure with not!Geralt!" Exuse my pessimism.
thk1 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 With the REDKit, could we create rougher and edited sex-scenes? Perhaps create an actual pe-a-nis for Geralt?

Exuse my pessimism. This is what I am hoping for. I would love to see something like ADWR translated over to a modern engine, and other similar adventures created as well. I'd even like to be the one creating them, but I need to go back and play through the game and then learn the tools...so that will be awhile. Really interested in what other people come up with though. I'm most curious on how easy it is to create brand new stories with a new PC. That sounds like the hardest part. Can't do something like ADWR if you can't create a new, female PC!
Eradawn Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Is witcher 2 shorter than part 1 of the playtime ? with Sidequests included in playtime. I wonder if i should grab it for a few euros :/. Part 1 was a really great game.
D_ManXX2 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I will have to replay Witcher part 1 again. i haven't really played it in years, the only reason i uninstalled it i needed the harddrive space. How is part 2 compared to 1 ??
Madmartigan34 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Daguy: I agree. I dislike Geralt and he's what kept me from getting very far into the Witcher 2. I never played 1. I'll probably try Witcher 3, due to its open world gameplay style, but yeah... I dislike him as a character. I DO like the setting/world a lot though. I love dark and nasty medieval settings like Game of Thrones or the Witcher. I just unfortunately don't like the main characters in either of those IPs, lol. I was hoping to someday get a Witcher game where you can make your own "witcher" character. And then bang Triss.
Mordyn Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Yeah, main difference between the 2 games is that The Witcher is really associated with Geralt, while with Skyrim you can create your character (you could say that Skyrim is associated with the world, the lore)... and that will be really make any skyrim-like modding difficult, story wise. Let's say you want to play a female character, or a less badass looking character, then you'll have to change all the quests to reflect that... while in Skyrim everything is already here. But in a way, an open world heavily moddable RPG game is a great news, as it will bring some diversity in a position monopolized by Bethesda until today. Especially if the game already integrates a really mature/adult mechanic unlike Skyrim...
