Looking for general advice

Recommended Posts

I've played through a vanilla run of Skyrim and now it's time for me to start installing mods.  I had some general questions about issues and also seeking general advice before going down any dark paths.

I have the basics, NMM, SKSE. I've started with HD texture mods to make the game world and objects prettier.  I like to stay as lore-friendly as possible.

Shadows

Especially indoor shadows or self shadows.  They are very blocky, even after modifying the skyrim prefs .ini to increase shadow mapping resolution to 8196.  I'm pretty sure even Oblivion had better shadows.  I haven't found any settings or mods to make this better.  Is this a limitation of the game?

Body/Races/Beautification

I've decided on a UNP body.   I prefer a more natural and modest bust size.  Are there specific custom races that work well with this body type which have racial abilities comparable to vanilla races?  Others I should avoid?  Any beautifications for the player or NPCs that are must haves?

Just learned about ECE.  Anyone have experience with this?  It appears to increase slider options but seems to have many incompabilities with other custom race mods, including Ethereal Elven Overhaul .  Any dangers with using ECE?

Any recommendations for replacing vanilla faces with HD ones, especially smoothing out wrinkles and  younger appearance?

Armor/Clothes

I'm of the understanding that clothes (if UNP compatible) will automatically scale with my body 'weight'? Are there UNP compatible vanilla armor/clothing replacers with breast phsyics out there (not too much 'bounce')? Or should vanilla gear fit the UNP body ok?

Needs

Oblivion had some really good sleep, food, drink mods.  What are considered some of the better ones in Skyrim?  Anything I should look for that also compliment these mods?

Monsters

Looking for mods to beautify female monsters.  Any recommendations?  Oblivion had mods like topless spider daedra, spriggans, female dremora ect.

Shadows :

Only ENB comes with 'acceptable' results but you can use the values explained here : http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/148//?

Body/Races

Temptress race comes with UNP body, all newer races I know of gets a NMM installer with the choice of the body (which is great), yes ECE has many incompatibilities but it allows you to really customize the face of your character, a lot more than any other mods around and there are usually workarounds to make races 'work' with ECE (they wont be able to use ECE sliders but wont crash the game either).

Armor / Clothes

UNP does not offer breast physics but there are lots of armor both replacers and non replacers for UNP, easiest way to do is to use this : http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34102//?

Needs :

Basically there are two main mods for that Realistic Needs and Diseases and Imps more Complex Needs, I dont use any so I cant tell you more really, frostfall is also a must for immersion.

Monsters

I dont know any beautify monsters mods but Monster Mod adds loads of monsters (the topless spider daedra is here if I am not mistaken)

UNP does offer Breast Physics----> http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14899//?

Even the The Ningheim Race which I HIGHLY recommend!!!  has Breast Physics. :D

UNP and UNPB are different.

This is UNP : http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6709/?

There is a mod offering physics to UNP but it is not as good as BBP for UNPB hence why I didnt mentioned it but here is the link :

What's the difference between this mod offering physics to UNP and BBP for UNPB?  Could you elaborate?  Just curious about the differences between the two.

And thanks to both of you for the great info so far.

At first UNP breast physics is not supported by any clothing or armor (at least as far as I know) and from what I understood it was more a "proof of concept" than a real mod, since now there is even support for TBBP it might worth trying but as you can see the mod was no modified since January.

@Zsquad UNP is indeed the base for UNPB but UNPB has way bigger curves and breast. UNP is still a body replacer on its own with even more armor models than UNPB, seems Dimon99 is not supporting it or updating it anymore tho but a lot of modders are still making armors for the UNP body.

The good point is you can still equip most of the UNP armors on the UNPB body but at 100% weight your character will have UNPB 0% breast or something like.

EDIT : Just saw that Dimon is now allowing anyone to modify his work as long as you give proper credits and upload mods on Nexus (that confirms that he will no longer support the base mod ...)

Required IMO:

Mod Organizer, Linked in my sig.

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) is a file based mod installer. It does hard overwrite of files as you install them. Therefore you ahve to install shit in the righ order or it may explode all over your face.

Mod Organizer is a RAM Based mod installer. You install mods, completely, and then use an interface to set the load order as the game is loading into ram. No files overwrite, and load order is check boxes with drag-n-drop. It is seriously "why the fuck wasn't I using this" kind of software.

Content is subject to taste. The main body mods...

cbbe

unp

adec

chsbhc

Each of those has derivatives which you can find with some Google-Fu. They all have different body styles. My personal favorite is ADEC but that's me. They all have a decent library of armors and outfits and all tend to have some kinda bouncy jugg business.
