Sneaksmile Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Hi! I have a problem with the shadows of my game, I hope someone can help me. I really don't know if it's a problem with the vanilla game or with my ENB. I use this ENB: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70451 It's a really super annoying problem, a square shadow problem. But it only occurs outdoors, not indoors. Please see the screenshots: Exteriors: Spoiler It really ruins '' artistic '' photos: Spoiler Interiors, there's no problem. Perfect shadows: Spoiler I have followed these tutorials but nothing works for my game: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/148?tab=posts https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/3vn8wk/the_key_to_fixing_blocky_shadows_in_skyrim/ https://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/3182216552773780335/ I did new tests when I was able to fix the ENB GUI not showing in my game. And the square shadows appear with the ENB turned off. Please see the screenshots: Spoiler Exteriors ... ENB on: ENB off: Interiors no shadows problem ... ENB on: ENB off: I hope someone can help me to fix those damn ugly shadows ... ?
Inquizit0r Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 I do believe that its the shadows rendering distance causing this. If your shadow distance is very high, this will happen. Well, at least I think thats what is causing it, I might be wrong, but.....try lowering shadow rendering distance and see if it improves.

Okay thanks. I will try it ... but exactly 'where' should I do that?
Inquizit0r Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 I am quite unsure if I am correct, but....I THINK (no guarantee), that its the setting found in SkyrimPrefs.ini (If you use Mod organizer, that should be in its profiles folder), this specific setting: fShadowDistance=10000.0000 Set it to 2500 and try if it worked. If it did, congratz, you found the source of the problem. And from there, you can start tweaking this number by increasing or decreasing it. If not, welp, I dunno.

It is in the tutorials that I have posted in the first post and that I have followed, but the shadows don't change at all, no matter what number I put in that value.

I use Mod Organizer 2 ... Where is the .ini file there? Is it also '' virtual '' like the Data folder? ... because I'm just modifying the .ini file in My Documents / My Games / Skyrim

I found it thanks. ? I will try to modify that file. It has the default settings ... dang ..
Sneaksmile Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Thanks for helping. I found the solution. I did not see any change when modifying the .ini because I was not modifying the .ini in my MO-2 Profile. I did not know that this configuration was also handled by MO-2. Then, you don't have to change anything in the .ini, just change the parameter '' fShadowDistance ''. Reduce it until you find a good resolution of shadows. In my case I had to leave it at 2000, because below that appears like a waffle-style shadow effect all over the butt, and that's just as ugly as Minecraft-style shadows. So ... shadows don't look as good as they look indoors but at least they're sharp and they're not just damn squares ... although in certain light conditions they really look perfect. So ... I can live with that. ? Spoiler THANKS! ?
