wang6969 Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 A update of the Sims 4 has made my sims textures extremely blurry to the point that the game graphics look as bad as the Sims 1. This is specific to the sims "characters" only and not to any objects in the game (the objects in the game still have high quality textures). The Sims 4 update that caused the problem happened around January to April 2021. Prior to this update, the game looked great and all the textures were high quality. This problem applies only to the "in game" textures. The Sims characters in CAS "edit" mode have high quality textures, but after leaving CAS "edit" mode, the textures become blurry again. Below is how my sim looks naked in CAS "edit" mode. Textures are clear and high quality, the detail on the stockings is clear and detail on the skin is clear. Below is the same sim in the game. Textures have switched to potato quality. Detail on the skin and her stockings are non-existent. This is how all my sims look since the Sim 4 update around January to April 2021. Before the update, the sims textures looked as good as they look in CAS mode. Notice the chair in the background still has high quality textures, so this seems to only apply specifically to the sims "Characters". I am running the Wicked Whims mods with the Wild Guys Female Body Details mod and MIKKOI - Female Body Details 4.0. I was running these mods before the update that broke the graphics. They worked fine before and are not suspected to be the cause of the problem. My Game options are set to the highest resolution and Sims texture quality is set to "Ultra High". Uncompressed textures are selected to on. Display type is set to "Windowed" just so I could take the screenshots, but changing that option has had no effect on the textures anyway. My graphics drivers are all up to date, the game is up to date with the latest update (todays update), and all mods are up to date. So whats going on? Why are my textures "in game" so blurry but then fine in CAS Mode? Has this happened to anyone else? And if so how did you fix it?
wild_guy Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 That's something totally abnormal. Have you ever edited GraphicsRules.sgr file or do you have a copy of this file in your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ConfigOverride folder?
wang6969 Posted May 28, 2021 Author Posted May 28, 2021 Wow! Is this wild guy? I wasn't expecting to see a reply from you. Your help is appreciated! I have never edited the GraphicsRules.sgr file. I just looked in the ConfigOverride folder and its empty. I also searched for hidden files and did not see anything in that folder. I figure there might be a setting in a configuration file somewhere that is telling the game to use low resolution with specific textures. It is very odd that only some textures seem to have low resolution and others are fine.

If you don't have an override, check the original file in ...\The Sims 4\Game\Bin. Find the string 'option SimQuality'. The default values for very high setting should look like this: Spoiler If it's ok, I have no other idea what the problem might be.
