TheDragonBorn Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I finally got my skyrim to a place where i can say its perfect for me, so basically i dont need to mod it anymore. however i noticed after i got skyrim special edition my old skyrim saves have this error text on the save files. Sgt. Marge Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Are you using Steam? What mod manager are you using? When you launch your modded Skyrim now, is it launching the Special Edition version, or the "Legendary Edition" version? (They aren't compatible, i.e mods built for Legendary won't run in Special Edition and vice versa* ) The special edition version in Steam installs to a separate folder by default so I'm not sure why that would have impacted your modded game unless something is fundamentally not quite setup right for your modded game. You could try verifying the files for Legendary edition maybe? *in general It's also possible that it's a coincidence that it started happening after installing SE. After checking the install if it still won't load, you could try disabling mods several at a time until you get it to load. If it's letting you get in and play and make a save and then that save is getting corrupted, you may be reaching the string limit. Do you have Crash Fixes installed? You may also want to double check that your Skyrim install is still in the language that you originally installed it in. If steam, right click on it in the library, Properties, Language. After checking the install if it still won't load, you could try disabling mods several at a time until you get it to load. If it's letting you get in and play and make a save and then that save is getting corrupted, you may be reaching the string limit. Do you have Crash Fixes installed? You may also want to double check that your Skyrim install is still in the language that you originally installed it in. If steam, right click on it in the library, Properties, Language. Edited for clarity ok so i verified my files like you said but the problem was how many npc's i have. i disabled a few and that string notification went away on all my save files. however my enb is completely screwed now...the lighting and colors are completely off. my PC doesn't have eyes. my physics are acting super weird, like they register late, for example when my follower runs or crouches her chest bounces super late. i had to delete more followers than expected just to get my old saves to work...even followers that were working just fine before i hit that string limit. its actually weird because if i deleted 3 of em...the string message would go away...but if i enable one i disabled and disable another one to replace it, and check skyrim again it gives the same error....so i go back to my NMM and disable both...it would say the same thing about the string ID, and its weird because at this point i have 4 disabled instead of 3 and it was with the 3 i disabled. it doesn't seem to be doing that now but my new game save isn't working akwardly enough. im confused on what went sooooo wrong here and idk how to fix all the other stuff thats damaged now?

Sgt. Marge Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 What I was trying to explain further down my post yesterday, is that Skyrim has a "string limit" and once you hit that, it can break your saves. It's possible that is what happened, I don't know. You didn't seem to provide an answer to the question if you already have Crash Fixes installed. If you do already have it installed you may want to double check the configuration. And if not,.. You can open your save file and check how many strings it has open. This thread explains how to do that, with this tool. If that's the problem you are having, Crash Fixes is supposed to alleviate that issue (but you probably need a new save. Once you hit a limit, disabling a bunch of mods is going to be a non starter for continuing to play the same save file. I would highly recommend using Crash Fixes regardless if it looks like you are at the string limit, along with the recommended "UseOSAllocators" enabled (make sure to follow all of the directions for this!) because it can make Skyrim way more stable. For real. I say all of this with the assumption that you are in fact using the original Skyrim Legendary Edition (LE) of the game still. I realized yesterday that you had posted a previous thread before regarding your SE install, and just to be clear the advice I'm giving is in relation to LE. As for the other strange things happening. It's possible that verifying your game files has reset or cleared ENB settings. I would recommend going through the instructions that came with your ENB to check those files. As for the physics, I'm not sure. Try reinstalling your skeleton / physics mod. Maybe one of the follower mods you disabled somehow was holding all of your physics files? If you reinstall HDT-PE (edit: assuming you are using that) and XPMSE it should put the files back somewhere. If the physics are moving weirdly now, it could point to a different hdtPhysicsExtensionsDefaultBBP xml configuration than the one you were using prior to removing follower mods etc.) As for missing eyes, were you using eyes that were added by one of the mods you disabled? If you are using racemenu, the command is ShowRaceMenu and then try and set different eyes. Edit: Sorry, I have a bad habit of constantly editing my posts to clean them up and add stuff. I included more info about my thoughts on the physics stuff.

I included more info about my thoughts on the physics stuff. yeah sorry. i was using crash fix. i took all your advice and almost everything works fine now! if i try to quick save, cant remember if thats f10 or f5, but i get a message stating the file cant save due to being corrupt, however if i do it manually it works just fine, i believe auto save will work like a charm too i will test it. My ENB preset is still horrible, and i followed all the steps for installing it again...no clue what happened, but thats a lot of progress from before

Here's what a reddit post recommended, but I haven't tried it: Quote Open any save (even if "corrupted") Go into command (by ~ "til") and type player.kill Allow yourself to die. Allow the game to reload that save. Now try to save again to see if you can save files properly. Personally, I would feel safer not opening a corrupted save, just save and then try it, but the rest of it seems plausible and apparently worked for someone.

Also the other day I was messing around and accidentally hit F9 which is the default button for loading a quicksave, and I got the message that it couldn't load that save because it was corrupt. So the way I fixed it was to just load a save and hit F5, and it made a quicksave, and then F9 worked to load it.
