Do I need to make a merged patch? (you can probably answer this real quick)

I am a bit ... confused right now.

Please look at this screenshot:

Do I need to make a merged patch or not?

I am not sure. As you can see, it shows 278 active plugins, but as I hover over it, it says: esms+esps = 166  /  Esls = 112
Does that mean only the 166 count towards the 255 limit or all of them combined together?

Exactly. You're fine and still have plenty of room in your loadorder before needing to merge plugins.

I am a bit rusty when it comes to modding a playthrough. I was just making videos and shit the past years.
Now I wanna try out all the cool mods I have been missing. ^^
