I sadly (but finally) lost my original Oldrim Instalation. Anyone willing to help me setup SE?

Title, pretty much. I originally tried to set-up SE with all the same mods that I used to have in Oldrim, but 1/4 of them don’t have a SE version, and I tried manually converting them to SE with some guides on the Nexus and LL, but I failed horribly, and I ended up telling myself “I still have Oldrim, and it works 90% of 50% of 1/4th of the time” but now that I don’t have it, well, I’m kinda desperate for some help. My main problem with SE is that that 1/4 of the mods are essential mods to my game, not necesarily to the game itself, but to MY game.

I keep running into the problem of not knowing or not being able to convert Oldrim/LE mods to SE, or not knowing how to get the original features working on SE conversions. (The ones where someone else converted the mod to SE and said "Its using my settings, if you want the original options do it yourself")

I used NMM, to manage my mods in Oldrim, my guess is that since NMM is dead, I’ll move to Vortex since that is its actual successor.

I have moderate modding experience, nearing on expertise (well, nearly 10 years of modding Skyrim has to had some effect, right?), but you might as well treat me as a complete newb, especially since I’ll be using a new mod manager that I have nearly 0 experience with.

I also still have my old Character presets surviving on an external Hard drive. (Technically, my Oldrim/LE installation is still "Alive", but most of the mods are broken, and Vortex cant do a thing to help me fix that problem, thats why I decided to upgrade to SE)

First off, with 2-1/2 years under my belt (SE) I'm a relative "skyrim newb" in comparison to you, so with that in mind...

hmm... the only direct advise I can give so far is this bullsh__ pseudo-philosophical perspective pap comment: "when you move house to a different part of the country, you won't see that old oak in the backyard any more".

Of course, the point being, some mods might be convertible, but some mods might not be (Animation speed control, for instance, has no SE equivalent at present. best alternative at present is to use console sgtm)

The short of it is that SE is SE, not LE. you're very likely going to have to sacrifice *some of the LE content, at least to get playing.  (maybe you can convert it all, idk, but for now, so you aren't bashing your head against the wall in frustration...figuratively speaking)

Vortex won't' fix internal discrepancies in LE mods to match them with SE requirements. (at least not as far as I know)... that has to be done with the CK and SSEDIT and nif optimizers and so forth. you probably already knew this but ftr...

I'd advise you to treat SE like a new game for now. bring what familiarity you can with you, play, perhaps add some SE exclusive content as temporary replacement for something that it *can replace, and figure out the conversion issues with your other mods one by one as time allows.

There IS a conversions thread (at least one) in the main Skyrim SE page you might check out, that might  help with some of your conversion needs (mainly bodies and armor/clothing stuff far as I can tell). fwiw

best wishes

Time is irrelevant, you know a lot more of modding than I do, at this point I'm on the verge of tears for not being able to do something that is apparently so simple that doesnt deserve any attention, can you help me? I just want to convert a handful of mods from LE to SE, and only one is from here, SoS for females, the other mods are regular Nexus Mods.

I don't know jack about converting mods. I know it can be done, I know a variety of tools are used. That's about it. I know how to install mods using Vortex. I know how to use bodyslide to build my player body and to fit clothes.  I know some other things too but not mod conversions. I've never even considered trying to. I just don't have the experience with CK (which I believe is part of the puzzle) or nif optimizer (another part I think is involved sometimes) etc

Best I can offer is visit the Skyrim Compatibily thread and see if you can cobble together a reasonable facsimile.  Then scan the other threads or thread off that main Skyrim SE page like the conversions thread I mentioned before.

good luck
