Thulas Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 i think i'll have a go at this if i ever figure out how to run games on RPG maker. That actually isn't really difficult. As written in the installation-instruction, the only thing you need is to have the RPG Maker RTP (resources to play) somewhere unzipped on your computer. Then you simply can start the over the game.exe and have some fun. You don't even need to unpack the game itself, though you can't really save then. If you still have questions or any problems, feel free to ask here in the thread or write me a PM.
Guest Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Was playing through it, and I enjoyed it. Cool work! Not sure if maybe I missed something, but is there anything after getting the reward for killing the imp then going back to the inn and Narin saying "I want to do dirty sexy things to you" to Lira?

Use a spoiler when you say things like that. This is a spoiler. Soooo, use one.

Yes, it is, at least for V.05. The upcoming version will have the complete third (or forth, if you add the prolog) day, started by a dream Narin has about their past. The next choices won't affect the story as much as the first one though, so it will be less important, but still lead to the various endings. Careful, big spoiler ahead: so either they become a couple or not, and if Narin will actually join the cult or figths with Lira against it. Unfortunately the garden still is quite empty, and I lack good ideas (mainly entcounters) to make it a lovely place. But at least I got a little help finished now; after every day, if everything important is done, it actually will become dark. Maybe this could help while the questlog is missing (if it ever will be included).
Thulas Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Just a quick reminder that there sill is progress made and the new version is uploaded (http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/219-cult-of-karleen/ ). Well, and because of my curiosity on how many views this topic has now. EDIT: Well, more than 11.000 views. Kind of makes me proud now.
Gᴀʟᴠᴀɴɪᴢᴇ Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Great game so far Thulas! I love it! I just passed the Imp part, unfortunately it didn't go to well! Haha. Keep up the good work.
Vorpal Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 When you check the stables before the city, a faceless Lira stays on the bottom-left screen until you do the first quest. Pressing X to get the menu, "Exit" goes to "Equip" and there's as "Save/Load", but no way to Load (without restarting the game completely, of course). On exiting the Inn from the first night (kept bro in, if it matters), it's still night, all through Devus' second quest. Not sure if intentional. I think I would have liked Lira's new look, except for that the mini-portrait creeps me out because her head looks small or something. Everywhere else is about alright, though. Maybe I'll get used to it. There are some typos. I should have probably kept track of them, but the only one I remember clearly was after Narin's dream: "This still hurts you deep inside your hearth, doesn't it?" Unintentionally punny, given that they were just talking about burning houses down. Narin's report that he feels depressed and vulnerable feels more than a bit off. I dunno, maybe I pictured his characterization wrong. When speaking to the priest while Lira is alone for the two-troublemakers at Karleen temple quest, Narin appears in the conversation. "You heared something wrong, then..." (typo in priest's dialogue-->heard). I thought Devus promised 40G per troublemaker, for a total of 80G, but he only pays 40G. Or am I misremembering things?

These are mostly relicts of much older test and attempts that obviously haven't been erased completely. You also could have a strange conversation at the mercernary guild where Narin also would show up, even while he is at home. Narin's personality once was different, but bumping into his trauma maybe is a bit too quickly. Maybe alittle conversation before that would come in handy. In the beginning it wasn't planned that they'd ever split up, so the conversations don't check if he is there. The bounty for Oran and Fell definitely was a mistake, since I created the quest itself and the reward on different days. I'll upload a hotfix once I fixed it. There are some typos There are not only some, there are many. It's just like easter, go out and find those eggs. When you check the stables before the city, a faceless Lira stays on the bottom-left screen until you do the first quest. Already fixed in the quickfix. You can find it at the downloadsection. I think I would have liked Lira's new look, except for that the mini-portrait creeps me out because her head looks small or something. Everywhere else is about alright, though. Maybe I'll get used to it. This whole thing took me probably 5 hours and 10 different ways to do it. I also am far away from being satisfied, but I can't wast my whole time on it, since it only keeps me away from starting to draw the real things. EDIT: I uploaded the new hotfix.
Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Minor typo: After telling Narin to stay and not go out to help Thessa and when she confronts the two, the word yesterday is spelled "yesturday"
Thulas Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Hey, what are you doing here? Get back to the BBoF! Thanks, I'll take a took at it.
Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I'm here to be the overly critical, incredibly rude person who is negative about every aspect of your game and can never be pleased. Your game smells like farts. There, now you have to live with that fact. On a not silly note, unless I missed something there didn't seem to any sort of hint to talk to the man in the weapons shop if you told Narin to go help Thessa. An example which I was thinking of is some sort of trail that the player has to follow that winds up at the shop. A trail of blood was the first thing that came to mind, but that wouldn't make much sense without some rewriting.
Thulas Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 A little hint wouldn't hurt, true. But the trail of blood doesn't sound too good, so I'll think about something else instead.
souldead341 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 A request for the overall management of the thread/uploads. Please add some kind of version number and change log. That way we can see what's been added in a given update as well as checking if we already have a file. Today's update I assume is just the hotfix, but might include the main file for some reason. Without a version number you can't tell. Edit: A thought on the path to the shop. Perhaps the innkeeper could be blocked by someone else talking with them, and it be suggested that they browse the shops for a few minutes.
Thulas Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Fine, I'll spend some more time to clearify the progress for you a bit and start to use the changelog feature. But the person blocking the in would cause many problems, since there'd be many variables that need to be checked and deactivated. All in all this would cause more problems than it would be worth, but a specific person (Oran in that case) who gives a hint should do just fine.
Thulas Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Done: Same pictures are also uploaded to the file itself. I guess I should start creating a logo soon.
Thulas Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Explanations on the poll: I had a few ideas in my mind on how to add some interesting and/or useful features to the game, and the results of the poll will show what most of you want to see. Keep in mind that you can give your vote for multiple features. If you want all of them implemented, just give your vote for all of them. 1:) Questlog An easy understandable way to ensure you allways know what to do and where to go, even if you missed a conversation or haven't played for a long time and forgot what you had to do. 2:) Combat HUD This probably would take some time to create, but knowing a few basics like the current health of the enemy, huw much hits Lira already has taken or simply a little icon that makes you aware that your focus is active might be handy. 3:) Many new items with balanced values The only items you currently can buy are a few weapons, but there are many other slots that aren't even used yet. For the right amount of gold and balanced stats there could be implemented a few nice things, like trinkets that alter the behaviour of Lira's abilities slightly. 4:) Arcade-combat A simple game in which you have an endless amount of enemies. Each successful hit awards you with points. These either could lead to a community-highscore or some rewards.
AwfulArchdemon Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I vote 1 2 and 3. 2 could be as simple as a health gauge. 3 could be something like special armor, or rings, bracelets, and other various cliché apparel. 4 sounds like fun, but probably more work than it's worth. I almost never play horde modes on games that have it. That's my opinion.
Thulas Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 The problem about the combat HUD is that I'd first have to create a proper system that transforms the variables into proper values the displaymechanism could work with. But the questlog seems to be the most wanted feature anyway.
aljustineg Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 so this version ends with the part when the 2 train karleen cause i notice that they dissapear after the training
Thulas Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 You probably mean after the battle between Lira and the two troubemakers (Oran and Fell). Yes, the only thing left would be to report back to Devus, but the next scene in which you'll have to make another important decission won't come before the next update.

Thulas Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Poll results The most wanted feature you voted for is: 1:) Questlog The questlog will be accesable trough the menu (which also means that the menu's graphics will be changed again). It will tell within 4 lines where you have to go, what you have to do and - if able - why you actually are doing it. A sample how it could be: To: Tevon, Inn -go to your room and rest After taking out the beastmen and recieving proper payment from Devus, I should go to the inn and get some rest. Well, or something like that.
Thulas Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Attention: Out of personal reasons I decided to cancel this project. After this update I won't work on Cult of Karleen anympore. I am sorry to disappoint you.
