Dreamer102 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Good day, Â I would like to ask for information on how to locate the files used by sexout during the sex actions. Â The volume is extremely high when NPCs get it on. I find myself yanking off my headphones or running away from the acts when they happen just to save on pain in my ears. Â I have lowered the overall volume to get the sounds to a level that is acceptable, but that lowers the rest of the game sounds to being almost inaudible. Â I know that in "Lovers with PK" the audio files could be edited as they all sat in the "Sound/fx/lovers/NS0f" directory. However, from what I've seen, the SEXOUT mod uses the "I'm being attacked" files for individual NPC types...therefore modding the files that sit in the same directory of the FNV data folder make no changes and/or disable the sound completely (file referenced in esp not found). Â I am not bagging on the mod at all because it ABSOLUTELY KICKS BUTT! But I do need to find out how to get these sex-audio files quieter. Â Â Thanks in advance...
Tregarin Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Best bet for a quick "fix" is to drop the voice volume down... unfortunately it means that all voices become quieter. (which bothers me not a jot since I run with subtitles on, but I can see how it could be annoying) Â unfortunately, the only way you're really going to make any change other than that is to fuck about with the Sounds.bsa... if you're gonna try doing that, make damned sure you take a back-up copy first.
Dreamer102 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Hmmm..."Sounds.BSA" eh? Well, I made a sound set for xLovers-Oblivion... Â I can make one for FNV-Sexout! Â Nothin' to it but to do it... *cracks knuckles*
Tregarin Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Uh... I could be wrong on that... somehow I think it might be Voices1.bsa instead...
Dreamer102 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Okay, "Voices.BSA" will be what I copy and crack open later. Cause i've got to find a fix for this. Â Now to look-up opening and recompiling BSA files...
Dreamer102 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Okay, I have no idea how to do this. I can't find anything that can open up a .BSA file and the sounds that I'm hearing don't seem to exist anywhere in my "Data/sounds/fx/sexout" folder. Â Rape sounds don't match whats in the "Rape" folder...normal sex sounds don't match what is in the "Normal" folder. Â Â Can someone throw me a clue? I can't open the sexout.esm/esp because GECK won't work unless I reinstall win7. Â Is there another way? Â
Tregarin Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 FOMM can do it... under tools. There's also a tool called BSAUnpacker... that can do it too. Â Â However, I've got zero experience with successfully making any changes to a BSA, so I can't help with anything you try to do once you extract the files...
Dreamer102 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Okay, I will try FOMM and BSAunpacker tonight. Â Thanks bud!
Dreamer102 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Okay, I took a better third look and tried lowering the volume of the files in the "Sound/FX/Sexout" folder. Â Sure enough, batch lowering the audio volume levels with audacity indeed lowered the sex sounds in-game. Â Problem resolved. However, adding sounds to the file folder that are not within the original file naming specs causes those sounds to not play. Â IE: If you add a file that is named "Wild screaming.wav" it will not be played...even if it is the only audio file in the folder. The only way to get your new file to play is to rename it to one of the original filenames. Â Is there an explanation as to how the sound files are routed by the mod? Â I will post this in the main sexout thread also.

more detail edit: You'll see a bunch of sounds like SexoutVoiceNs01 pointing to "hot_moans_01.wav"  Double click that and then you can edit the sound file associated with that 'named sound' (which you don't want to change without more editing). You can also set the attenuation according to distance for each sound here.  If you don't want to get yourself too deep down a hole you can't climb out of, I'd make sure to write down what sounds were where before you change them so you can put them back if you want.
Dreamer102 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Thanks Prideslayer! That cleared up a lot of things. Once I am able to run the GECK I will try it all out. If I mess up any of the associations I will just reinstall the mod. Â Â

Make sure you use the NVSE geck launcher thing and not the vanilla geck, or else you'll run into real problems when you try to edit / modify anything using NVSE.
prideslayer Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Also doing what you're after can probably all be done in the geck, without messing with the actual .wav volume. Â One of the attenuation settings is basically for distance 0, so cranking that up should reduce the volume of the sound without having to edit and repackage the .wav's. Â You could (if you're feeling particularly inspired) add the volume controls to MCM and adjust the attenuation levels for the sound that way -- in game volume control, just for sexout voices. Â Just ideas.
Dreamer102 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 That would make more sense because in-game, even when the sex is taking place at least 10 feet away from me, it sounds like they're getting it on right next to me. Â That gets REAL annoying REALLY quick! Â Whoa! How would you go about adding that control to MCM!? I have no idea how to script or mod...I just change stuff in the modding tools when I can get them to work. Â I won't be able to load the GECK until I reload Windows-7 as it is corrupted, so I opt for any method, that doesn't require using the GECK, first. Â Is there any way you could send me a modified ESP?

MCM just allows you to tweak variables held in mods, so I'm thinking I can put a volume var in sexout and then apply it to the falloffs in the sounds whenever MCM changes the value, as a sort of multiplier; 0.0 to 1.0. Â I'll let you know what I come up with. Sorry I didn't see the thread sooner and what you were trying to do

Sorry I didn't see the thread sooner and what you were trying to do  I there. I'm new to this forum and the mod, which is great.  Sorry for "highjacking" the post a little, but I'm having the same problem. The fem rape sounds are unbearably loud, so I was following very closely this thread to address the issue as well.  I tried one of the solutions proposed: batch lowering volume level to 25% AND re-adding the data files as FOMOD with FOMM, but they continue to be equally loud.  Also, I did browse with FOMM 'Fallout - Voices1.bsa' and the rest of the '...sound.bsa' files, but didn't found any sexout file anywhere.  I really could use some help, because this volume level is driving me nuts, and I can't believe any healthy person (with neighbors and/or a GF) could bear to lower the speaker system each time some dude wants to drill a girl in the game.  Thanks so much.

Others are welcome to attack the problem as well!
Dreamer102 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 What I did was this: Â 1. Go in to your Fallout:New Vegas folder 2. Open your "DATA" folder. 3. Open the "SOUNDS" folder. 4. Open the "FX" folder. 5. Open the "SEXOUT" folder. 6. You will see 3 folders (KCUYY, NS0 & NS1...I think...proper directory listing is: Data\Sound\fx\Sexout\ns0, ns1, kcuyy\) 7. Inside each of these folders are the sound files you want to edit. 8. For now, minimize the folder and.. 9. Download and install "Audacity 1.3" (latest version is 1.3) 10. Run Audacity 1.3 11. Click "File", then "Import Audio" 12. Import all of the wav files in each directory as a batch. 13. Click "Edit" 14. Click "Select/All" 15. Click "Effect" 16. Click "Amplify" 17. Slide the slider to the left until it shows "-1.3" in the readout. This is a good starting volume-reduction point. 18. Click "OK". You should see the readout lines of the audio file shrink in height. 19. Click "File" 20. Click "Export Multiple" 21. Be sure to select a different folder when Exporting & make sure to select WAV. NOTE: If you don't use a differet folder it will Overwrite your current files or if you uncheck Overwrite it will put a second set of #2 files in the original folder. 22. Click through the prompts for the files (OK) until they are done. 23. Check your export folder for the files you converted. 24. Backup or delete the original files from the folder you are working on (KCUYY, NS0f & NS1...I think) 25. Replace the original files with the ones in your export folder. 26. Repeat the above processes for all Sound folders. It will lower the audio of your game-sex sounds to the appropriate levels. 27. Also, lower the volume level of the voices in-game in the "Settings". Â Â Hope that helps. Â
Abelius Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Awesome dumb-proof guide Dreamer. Thanks to both for your help, but I still have the problem. Â After "amplifying" to a tiny 5% (with another sound editing program I have), the hot_moans... wav files sound so low at Windows desktop that I need to rise the speaker volume to actually hear something, but at the game are as loud as always. Â I did modify the files at this path: Data\Sound\fx\Sexout\ns0\rape\4 Â That's the path from which the mod gets its sounds every time it loads and a stalker rape takes place, right? Â Well, if this doesn't work, then I'll try to have a look at that GECK tool you say. Â Thanks again for your time. You're great.

I had to lower the files volume level little-by-little when I did the mod. My first try was waaaaaaay too low. Â ALso, lower the volume level of the voices in-game in the "Settings". After I did that, the new volume levels took properly. (I should have mentioned that in the other post) Â
Abelius Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Strange then... I'm positive that the sound files are now at a ridiculous low level, and they still play at 'crazy-porn-actress' loudness. Â About your suggestion to lower the volume of voices at the game... well, that would lower all the voices in game, so that's not very practical, right?

Dreamer102 Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 If you just lower the voices volume in-game a little it takes effect the way you need it to.
