(SOLVED) Another Mysterious Mystery CTD on Save Load

Hello smart people, I have a 100% reproduceable problem with CTD when trying to load a save and I need help. Let me preface this by letting you know I am usually very self sufficient, have no issues setting up mods (mostly by reading!), making compatibility patches and sorting out issues generally myself (again by reading), but this is proving too difficult for me. This is for Skyrim SE, I know I'm posting this in the SE Tech Support Thread, just want to be clear.

 

The Mystery - After learning any Word of Power, the save becomes unloadable. CTD at the same spot everytime, the papyrus log is always the same, but I doubt anything listed before the CTD is actually causing it, since those same messages are there when loading a game that doesn't ctd. 

 

My game is stable, since I settled on the mods I'm using I have been able to play with maybe 2 or 3 crashes or lockups in probably 30+ hours of play. I don't remove mods or even update them once I start a playthrough, nothing in the saves having this problem has ever been changed removed or cleaned, there are no orphaned anything in them, and no suspended stacks or unreasonable active scripts (usually 0-3 active).

History - I was trying out Skyrim Unbound, and managed to play to level 24 without any dragons, and decided to do the quest in Bleak Falls Barrow. After finishing the quest I continued to play for a few hours saving probably 5 times during that time. Later I came back to the game and tried loading and every save after learning that Word would CTD on load.

My first thought was something went wrong in Skyrim Unbound, I scrapped everything, changed a few mods around and restarted with Skyrim Unbound Reborn, didn't play as long this time, but enough time to make sure all the mods I changed up were working properly and the game was stable. At Level 15 went to Bleak Falls Barrow and had the same exact outcome. Then I scrapped everything again and went back to using Live Another Life, went to Bleak Falls Barrow level 4 on both male and female characters, same exact issue. 

I can save and load standing near the wall (in game, from menu and exiting the game and reloading), but after I learn the word no save will load. Tested inside before and after learning it inside, tested learning it and leaving, tested learning and fast travelling, all same result.

 

I found a single post on the Nexus from 2018 that had this exact problem, only after much time (probably weeks at this point) spent searching. The original poster was kind enough to let me know he did not remember if he found a solution.

I've disabled the mods that seem to me to have something to do with dragon spawns and Words of Power, like Timing is Everything, The Choice is Yours, Immersive Encounters, Extended Encounters, without starting a new game, just cleaning scripts, same result. I have not yet disabled combat mods or Simply Stronger Dragons, but I have read nearly all the posts in those mods and not found an issue like this, though I will probably be disabling and trying again. I have not tried without no alt start mod, but again, I have not been able to find an issue in the posts for those mods related to this. I have verified local files through steam, nothing was changed.

My next step is to randomly disable a number mods without starting a new game and see if I can advance and load a save, this will take some time. I have not started a brand new game with no mods, my guess is it will work fine, and I will have wasted another couple hours, as I have no interest in playing this game the way it looks and plays without wonderful mods.

 

I use the old NMM (community edition 0.80.1), I have no problem with it. I like the idea of virtual installs MO/Vortex, but I have not had problems related to installation of mods that I cannot sort out myself or any glaring issues with NMM.

I have tried to be thorough here to avoid the basic questions, but I may have missed something so let me know if I did. Wall of Text appologized for.

Modlist (in order of installation, nothing overwrites XPMSE except MNC I think, same for anything else that should not be overwritten.

I should add that nothing modifies shouts in the game, so my general guess it is something which modifies lesser powers, or how they are added. Lots of mods add lesser powers, I'm going to try disabling those and see what I get. 

After learning the Fus, I can use it without issue until I try to load a save, then ctd.

 

 

edit: I wasn't thinking clearly, not sure lesser power has much to do with shouts, but no mods that I have modify or add shouts that I can remember except for SLEN, but those are disabled, and SLEN was never actually enabled ingame the first time I experienced this issue.

since you were able  to save, now might be a good time to run your savefile through fallrim tools and clear any leftover junk.

Thanks for your help. I have always been able to save, I just can't load any saves after learning a Word. There is not any leftover junk in any of the saves that can't be loaded, or any out of control scripts or suspended stacks.

 I did try that earlier, same result.

Good news though, I found the problem!! I guess writing a wall of text and thinking about it really hard for 6 hours, was worth it. Just wish I had sorted this out a month ago, since it wasn't any mods issues, it was a small error I made in one of my own patches. .NET Script Framework helped me narrow my search.

Honestly, I was close to scrapping this and going off again to play other games instead, I'm so relieved to have figured it out.
