Struggling to get Skyrim SE to generate a Papyrus log

Recommended Posts

Posted

Evening,

I had a decently stable setup but had troubles with POP to not crash at the dragonsreach dungeon. While attempting to troubleshoot I could not get the game to spit out a papyrus log at all. I've revalidated the files. reset the ini, used the BethINI Standalone optimizer thingy. I've tried turning off the Papyrus utility mod. I tried running the game through steam without SKSE / MO2. I've run out of ideas. I must be missing something basic I feel like.

Here is my current mod loading, I've been turning off mods and I think I've created a mess beyond my initial issue.

Are you using the profile-specific ini setting? (in MO2->Profiles) If so you need to edit the files inside your profile folder (or use the built-in INI Editor in MO2).

You shouldn't try to start the game without skse or MO2. What would you get? A vanilla or partially modded game without SKSE/all the mods you use. Would it help to troubleshoot your current issue? I doubt it.

Also you should know papyrus logs are not crash reports. These logs only write scripting/debug information. It might not even get to register the point of your game crashing. If the problem is a mod in particular you should ask in that mod's support thread. Perhaps a papyrus log is useful for the mod author. Perhaps you need something else. In any case, NetScript Framework does have a crash log that might give you some clues about what's wrong at the time of the crash.

I got frustrated and just wanted the game to spit out just any papyrus log at that point.

Anyways thanks a ton, I had not realized I needed to modify the ini in MO2. I was focused on the one in mygames folder. I really appreciate you taking the time. I wanted to be able to put up more information than just my load order into the technical support for POP. I think I'm headed in the right direction now.

Fair enough. You're welcome, like I said papyrus logs have their uses, but be prepared in case it doesn't yield the info you want.

BTW, as you mentioned BethINI, if you were using profile-specific inis in MO2 you're likely using the vanilla inis and not the ones optimized by BethINI (unless you configured BethINI to detect your MO2 profile). If this is the case:

  1. you could manually move the inis optimized by BethINI from its default location to your profile folder, that way MO2 will use the optimized inis by BethINI
  2. or disable profile-specific inis so MO2 uses the default ones (which should be the ones created with BethINI).

Either way, at that point you only need to worry about a single set of ini files to edit.
