Hey there,

When sorting through my data folder today I noticed that AAF seems to have generated txt files for all the times that I ever initiated it on my computer:

This is what a single looks like:

And this is what it looks like in the folder F4SE/plugins:

2 questions from me:

1. What is purpose of generating these text files every time AAF is initiated??

2. Can we safely delete these txt files and stop AAF from generating them, if there is no harm in doing so??

Thanks in advance. ?

Good questions.

AAF should generate only one of these text files per unique playthrough (ie save file). After that, it should just maintain and modify that one file for that particular playthrough.

The purpose of the file is data storage for various AAF variables. Saving variables into the Bethesda save game file has some significant limitations. So, this is working around that.

Currently, this file stores data about which themes you have installed (so that it doesn't congratulate you for installing the same theme every time you start the game), what the unique name is for actors that have been given names by the name generator (if you have those optional mods installed), what characters AAF stats are (if you have an AAF stats related mod installed).

Over time, additional information can/will be stored in this file.

There isn't a way to stop AAF from generating them currently. It would be something of a pain to turn that off and on and they are pretty harmless as they are.

You can delete them. Of course, if you delete one from a playthrough that is no longer used or doesn't exist, it will have no effect. If you delete one that is for a game that you are using you will lose the data stored there. So, if you had stats or themes installed, it will "forget" that information and proceed from a blank slate. It will not otherwise cause problems. It will simply create a new file and start to store the same information there instead.
