As a long-time gamer, the idea of "built for replay" usually just doesn't work. IMO, if a game is good, written well, and fun, I replay it. Because I WANT TO. If, however, I need to prestige 12 times and play 43 different progression branches and look under 20019184 rocks to get my 99% tag, and then I have to do ALL that again before I can access the "secret ending" (1st of 5)... yeah. No thanks. I'm sick of it LONG before then. lol Sorry.. trying to be sardonic and make a point here, and that would be simply.. focus on making a great, fun, memorable game. If elements present themselves that feel right, fun AND lend ways to build in replay aspects then great. But don't force them in with a big hammer and/or massive repetitious garbage. That always backfires, and only the most hardcore lovers of any series (even the big AAA titles) even pretend to like that sort of "busy work" "replay value". Again.. maybe just my opinion, but obviously I got some strong ones on the subject. Only wanna make a small note here which is to TRY (and this can be one of the hardest parts of the design aspect) not to let YOUR loves/hates force you into too much or not enough of a niche. What I mean is, if you WANT a very focused, niche appeal game, ok. If, OTOH, you want something that appeals widely, then the magic ingredient is often freedom of choice. The more options any given player has, the more players will find something that makes the game enjoyable to THEM. It's important to decide right out of the gate which way you want to go with this, since it will be a rather important aspect of design direction for... basically the whole damn project. By way of example, using yours above.. I happen to adore dickgirls (usually). I guess I sorta see it as a perfect solution to a bisexual's age old question of who to call Friday night. xD By the same token, I myself don't get things like feet, exaggerated beyond (my perception of) reason body proportions, and probably dozens of other likes/fetishes. That said, if I knew some of those things would greatly appeal to a portion of my target audience, I'd probably try to work them in - assuming again I was going "wide" rather than narrow. And of course, ALL that said, in the end, it's your game and your vision. ANYTHING you don't feel you can put some heart and love into creating is probably best left out. It's quality, that really counts in the end, and if your heart just can't find a path to a given aspect, then it winds up feeling tacked on, or worse, like those hundreds of "You. I now companion yours. You click me now and I annoy you forever" Skyrim mods everyone deletes 2 minutes after installing. Anyways.. my thoughts so far, for what they're worth. Cheers. Yeah, replayability is a very difficult thing to nail down. After looking at why I love New Vegas so much I came to a similar conclusion. It's the game. The game itself is so fun that even after nearly 1000 hours of playing I still smile and hop back on after just thinking of it. All the little things combined make the game great. and replayable. Having little challenges or hidden away secrets are a good way to gain investment, or as New Vegas was so good at doing, taking you completely sideways. I understand the value of choice very well. However, in the world I'm making dickgirls, futa, just wouldn't fit. Especially given the Nature aspect is so high and it's got a focus on breeding. Futa kinda takes that and throws it to the wind. When it comes to transformations, well... I have thought about some of the possible 'changes' and just don't really see a way to implement them without some kind of fetch quest. I'm also debating non-human races, though I don't know which ones, their cultures, their take on the player's actions, etc. Cheers.

After suffering several strokes and a cardiac arrest I managed to figure out what you were trying to say. I think. Thanks?
slimbones Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Gameplay is important but nothing puts me off from a game than terrible wooden robotic animations. So very few especially 3d games have good animations even decent animation sex scenes or otherwise.

I'm slowly learning how the systems I want to use work, hopefully I can have something to show for in some months. Maybe a demo? I don't know, too far ahead. Right now, I'm learning.
kevanlol Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 it's really simple, and the same reason why porn (video) is shit compared to like movies. There isn't much point in investing money into making something that will get hit with like rated x or whatever that will result in it getting a smaller audience and thus making less money. They simply don't have the budget.
Quertee Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 they mostly suck because the sole purpose of their existence is for fan service (and therefore is technically a shovelware) and so the gameplay isn't all that interesting / makes players want to keep playing and also the fact that a lot of porn games i see is almost always just a rapidly produced puzzle / management / platformer game with still images / GIF of porn sprinkled in the simple answer would be to make an enjoyable / good game first, then add the nsfw stuff after. or make a normal game and let the community / ask the community to do it's thing if you know what i mean my opinion of an example of a good porn game would be Princess & Conquest (as mentioned somewhere here). yes it's just an RPG maker game but it's actually pretty interesting since it has mechanics other than sex and interest points other than porn that's all the example i can give because a lot of games i know is only nsfw because of nsfw community made mods (some of them are even so well made, it's like it's part of the base game itself)
sfsafasfdsadafds Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 I think my favorite porn game on the market right now is Karryn's prison. I think the right way of making a porn game is having the gameplay be about the porn/kink that is being explored in the game. Nothing worse to me than have some terrible rpg combat in a porn game. I'm playing the game for porn. If I want combat, I can go and play an actually good rpg or action game. Peak porn games are those, that use the games systems to facilitate the porn. In Karryns prison for example you do have combat, but all combat heavily involves sex. It's a corruption game (virgin to total slut), so all combat revolves around trying to struggle against the inmates in the prison while trying to stay as "pure" as possible. This means that on higher difficulties you can genuinely try (and fail) at trying to stay as uncorrupted as possible. This really immerses you into the subject matter. With more traditional "corruption" games, such a genuine struggle is impossible. You either have to deliberately loose the piss easy combat or choose the very obviously wrong answer in dialogue. This means that you have to give your consent (by deliberately loosing), which goes against the core theme of a corruption game. I really recommend that you look at that game to look how game systems are built around the porn in a way that all aspects (combat, mini-games and management) of the game directly influence and interact with the porn nature of the game. In my eyes, thinking about how to incorporate the porn into the gameplay itself is the most important part of a porn game. This is the part that you have that cannot be done better by animations, or video porn, or any other form of porn. You should try to leverage it.
jxm Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I can of course only share my very personal own views and opinions and preferences on this. To me, gameplay is actually not that important. I hate those combat-systems in some of those RPGs, turn-based, often akin to Final Fantasy, which I always disliked like I dislike most JRPGs in general. Always glad if such games have an auto-win/easy-mode implemented. What I am looking for in those games are scenarios that simply are not tackled in general porn, or if so, on the cheapest and most cringe level. For example - if you like sexual fantasies involving Elves and Orcs or whatever - you won't find that in general porn movies. You have to resort on novels, short stories or comics. Or games. One thing though I hate in sex games is the often horrible dialogue and humour. Its like the creators are afraid of going full in and try to undermine their stories with humour, childish dialogue, 4th-wall-breaking, "funny" popculture-references etc. God, I hate that. Some games can come away with that. But usually...well, if Iwant that, I play the old Larry Laffer adventures. So a well-written story that actually leads somewhere, a nicely created world, an unusual setting and scenarios? Count me in. Choices are also great to have, especially as I prefer female-protagonist-games (way too few imho out there) and like to go slut routes, or submissive routes etc, which however others dislike. And lastly, on a personal note: The one thing that turns me off SOOOOO damn much about many visual porn games is that fetish for gigantic tits. Is that really such a fetish? To fap to women with boobs the size of the moon? So many promising games are ruined to me mostly due to the obnoxious artstyle preferring huge bazoongas instead of normally sized females...

Exarbated in all those render VN games where the clothes magically stick to the boobs as if glued onto the skin. Clothes do not work like that! It seems a lot of devs never have seen a woman.
