So, I haven't played Sims 4 (the time I've had with S3 is so long ago now) and didn't realise that the townie makeovers aren't actually straight drop-in replacers of in-game household townies [My first test was with the ever-present Goths]. Question: How do I actually know what townies have been generated in the world to replace them with these makeovers?

Most of the houses have their designated townies. Ie. X building has Goth family. I go into their house and open them in CAS, give them makeovers. Then replace them manually. Manual replacement is the only way (either use MCCC or delete them in CAS, then replace them with the makeover ones). Game may or may not generate them again as homeless sims, since the replaced ones will take their place in their home. You can manually delete the re-generated ones.

After some time playing I guess some things remain similar from S3, in that as Sims appear, they start to populate the 'other households' [can't remember what it was called/how it was managed in S3]. So, at least I can manage the replacement one by one till the 80 limit. Though it somehow means that I can't start a 'new game' without undergoing an arduous replacement of those starter households, though starting a 'new household' is the more real start for a new character.

You can replace the townies you want. After you're done, before starting your gameplay, make a save file. Have a back-up copy. Every time you want to start a new game, you can easily use this save file. This way, you won't have to re-replace every townie from ground.
