Crash in Bannered Mare

My game recently started to crash whenever I enter the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. It's either a CTD or an infinite loading screen everytime. Same thing happens if I type "coc whiterunbanneredmare" in the console. It worked through the console once for less than a second, then it crashed. Anyone know what can be done?

Do you have anything that changes anything in the bannered mare? I would try turning off anything that changes whiterun and anything that changes or adds to the bannered mare or changes people/adds people to the bannered mare. Might be a load order boss is good for sorting load order wyre bash can help show conflicts. There is also the Papyrus logs that will show what caused what when the game ctd.

The only NPC added I believe is Vilja. If I go to the Bannered Mare from the main menu, it works, but crashes if I try to leave. Where are the Papyrus logs?

Hard to read a notepad with wall to wall text. It crashes when trying to load Chesko_Frostfall.esp. I see a hell of a lot of missing scripts. Like GetShelterTBScript WBSpidersDenScript WbSpidersDenQuestScript DragonClawHolderScript and many more . Not sure if turning off frostfall will fix it or not since there are many other script errors in there. Not sure how much of them might of been added by frostfall. I would try turning off frostfall and see if that works. If it crashes again look at the log.

Uninstalling Frostfall, didn't stop the crash. But sometimes the delay from entering the Bannered Mare to the crash is a bit longer.

I seem to recall Sounds of Skyrim being unstable, leading to the author removing them from Nexus... have you tried disabling those?

Yup, I disabled Sounds of Skyrim, and deleted my saves. I tried entering the Bannered Mare through the main menu console and it crashes while leaving the Bannered Mare.

The log is alot smaller now. It was 10mb, now it's 40kb. It seems it might be Whiterun. I started in RIverwood, entered all the buildings, everything went fine. Approached the guards outside of Whiterun, crashed. Did "coc whiterunwarmaidens", went to the Drunken Huntsman, crashed, Guard Barracks, crashed. Still don't know what is being show in the log, but stills seems to be errors.

 

Just in case, I'll attach it, it is a lot smaller.

Well if you got a crash getting close to whiterun it could be the mod you have that alters it. Beautiful Whiterun the Riften one might do it as well. Things that point to it 1 crash getting close to Whiterun 2 crash when trying to leave inn to outside. The first 4 lines show missing files B3OlavaDeathScript BZWadingWellScript and a bunch more not sure what any of them go to. You must have a home mod or something that adds to a home. There are errors for  dragonClawHolderScript that is the script for placing claws into holders. There are a bunch of companionshousekeepingscript FollowerWandererScript AdoptionHousePurchaseSTARTUP() on a None object aborting function call companionhousekeeping followerwander is scripts for races followers and custom races. Lots of HuntersVisionUtilityScript type errors not sure if they are from a mod or the race you are using. last line at end shows errors from sexis and LvlPredatorScript. Might try to turn off beautiful whiterun and see if that fixes the crashes. Some of these errors maybe fixed if you uninstall them then reinstall them back. I tried removing a number of mods that seem like they would have scripts relating to those, nothing worked. Would a complete reinstall of Skyrim fix the problem?

Edit: It's only Bannered Mare now that causes a crash.

 

Well if all else fails then it might be better to do a reinstall and start a new game with a new save as the old save might be corrupted and even with mods turned off there is still bits and pieces of them in the save. Just remember not to reinstall the ones that caused the problems. I tend to try to stay away from having too many mods that are script heavy installed as the more scripts you have the more chances you run of having lots of problems.

Thanks for your help, I will do a reinstall. I never did find the mod that caused the problem, even in a new save.

Not necessarily , it might be the save itself is corrupted . before unistalling make a new save go there and if it keeps crashing try disabling you mods a bunch at a time to find which one is causing the CTD .

Well, he said the problem was fixed... the question is, is he still using all the same mods, but somehow not crashing anymore?

I had the same problem with various mod configs. i found that fastest way to determine the culprit is simple "divide and conquer" searching metod, starting with disabling half of the plugins. worked all the times so far. having 255 esps active all the time may be sometimes pain in the ass. whole process never took me more than hour or two.

 

also, i did run out of memory few times with high res textures - especially in bannered mare, where lot of npcs from mods spawn. using texture optimizer solves the problem, most of the time at least.

just reminding, i just realize he is using highrestexturepack without using the unofficial patch for it, that might also be a problem (are those unofficial patch really necessary?)

 

and also believe it or not, i've manage to 'partially clean' my save from scripts problem (CTD, delays) using this method :  http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34063/?

 

i got 2 - 15 second delay on scripts action (e.g Auto Unequip arrows unequip it very late, like 10 seconds later), tried that method and everything works fine again, beware of the risk though

There are some papyrus ini tweaks that might help with mouselag and fpsdrop with script-heavy mods (like i.e. frostfall). It reduced script lag problems. Too big textures shouldnt cause script lag imho, more like fps drops and freezes. Also, there is plugin for SKSE that erases no longer used script entries from save games, but i cant remind its name right now.
