many mods not working and ctd

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I return SSE from long time ago and I am resulting mods not working and ctd as title.

Mods like SLHH, SL adventure, Approach redux, Body Searching etc which requires NPC react with PC actively dont work with my setting to maxium.

Moreover, CTD happens randomly with lag.

I am using Vortex for mod managing.

Can someone give a hand?

How long ago? Skyrim SE is now at 1.5.97, and SKSE at 2.0.17 (or 2.0.19, but that one is generally considered premature since some mods don't work with it and the game works fine with 2.0.17

Much of the old methods used with 1.5.80 and previous versions are now obsolete. Not just outdated, but obsolete.

Personally, I'd prefer to also see a mod list with version values. Load order is all fine and dandy when dealing specifically with load order issues, but the title indicates - to me - a more systemic issue(s)

btw, can't speak for everyone, but I prefer a copy pasted listing using the spoiler tag (that eyeball icon next to the emoji icon in the editor's controls tab) rather than downloading a file from an unknown source. (safety in the modern age)

Thanks for your respond, I must say I am a noob in modding and last time i played with SSE modded is around last year November. Since my old mods and game were being removed for some reason, I am playing with SE 1.5.97 and SKSE 2.0.19 with my new mod list which are all recently installed and are in newest version I could find. Most of the mods claim that they support SKSE 2.0.17 above. Or would you recommend me to change the version of SKSE to 2.0.17?

And i am sorry for not using spoiler tag. I didnt know it before. Here is it.

The conversions thread (see the main Skyrim Special edition page) suggests that players "downgrade" to SKSE64 2.0.17 because some mods still aren't playing nice with 2.0.19 and some users are still experiencing problems with 2.0.19.

Personally, I run with 2.0.17 and never saw any valid reason to switch to 2.0.19. Game runs just fine.

No biggie about the load order being in a file vs spoiler. Just a suggestion, since using the spoiler tag and doing a copy-paste allows readers to directly view, and they can do so without seeing a wall of text post or deciding whether they want to download a "foreign file from an unknown source". At least you had the forethought to avoid the wall-of-text. ;)

tbh, I don't see anything that sticks out in your list. But then I don't use many of the mods you're using.

And I still don't see your full mod listing, just your plugins.  Not all mods have plugins.

So, first thing I'd do is backtrack to SKSE64 2.0.17, and open a save prior to when you installed 2.0.19

Also try starting a new game (after stepping back to 2.0.17)

make sure that all your mods are up-to-date for 1.5.97/2.0.17. idk whether you'd already updated to 1.5.97 last fall or not. For me, the change from 1.5.80/2.0.16 to 1.5.97/2.0.17 wasn't made until last winter and I actually had to abandon my old play vectors and start new games (for my female and my male players)  because the saves wouldn't open.

Beyond that, you'll either have to wait for  more savvy help or start trying the "uninstall mods in reverse order of installation" until you find whichever mod is causing the issues

Change my SKSE to 2.0.17 fix the problems. Thanks a lot!

But I am now facing another problem, the game become laggy when played for a while.

May you help?

Thanks a lot again  :D

hmm...

Not exactly sure what you mean by "laggy"

First off, if you're running from a previous save file (vs a new game), I'd recommend using fallrim tools to clean the save. You may have  junk leftover from various mods. That junk can cause game slowdowns. The usual usage is to clean unattached instances and then undefined elements. A modal box will display upon opening a savefile, indicating what is or isn't clogging the save file.

For script lag, you can install Elephant's Script Latency Tester

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/24124

a "normal" lag value shown when using it should be around 80ms. When I check my game's operation, I fire it up in the mode that just displays values to the game window (as opposed to writing a report) .  There are certain areas where I usually get high lag. One is the area between Whiterun and Rorikstead. Not exactly sure why but "it is what it is"  Personally I suspect it's simply because there's a high resource/script load, between all the animals in that area, plus weather, plus a lot of flora loading, but I don't know the "real" reason (it's just an experiential thing for me)

when I see high lag, I try to get to an interior space, idle there for a couple game days (sleep 24 hours x 2 or 3) , then save, then clean the save, then reload that save.

Beyond that.... too many installed animations can cause lag issues.

FPS stuff is pretty well beyond my skills to handle.

I really appreciate your help! Running fallrim to clean my save just fixed the laggy problem. But i am not sure if 5000+ animations are too many or not.

I have found it safe to

  • remove unattached instances
  • remove undefined elements

beyond that is up to you.

Although at some point in the past I did clear some extraordinary number of animations in a bid to resolve my own lag problems. And it did. But no guarantees on that. I'm not sure if I did anything "bad" to my game. when I did so. It doesn't appear to have, but I suppose one never knows.

If you do so, make sure to save that one to a separate title from the normally cleaned game just to make sure you can fall back to the normal cleaned file if something goes awry. And also, imo, don't ever just overwrite unless the number of things found is trivial (ie, like one or two issues)

ie, save the first cleaned one as cleaned_(whatever), and the one with cleared animations cleaned_animations_too_(whatever), so they can be referenced easily later on.
