Kreftdjur Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Hi, So, im having issues with fps in whiterun and some other cities. My game is modded (around 170 mods), the game is very stable and runs at 60 fps all the time except in some larger cities. For example, whiterun runs fine in some places, but when i look at certain areas my fps drops like a rock. From 60 to 30 (lowest fps recorded was 29.5fps when looking at Drunken Huntsman from Adriannes forge). Biggest problem is that the game was running the same with 0 mods installed, same fps drops, difference is around 5 fps with and without mods installed. I took some pictures and i will post my load order if it can help. Im playing on gaming laptop (ryzen 5 3550h, gtx 1050ti, 16gb in dual channel). MinamiTakahashi Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I'd probably start by seeing if it's a problem with your enb. Do the bad framerate areas still exist when it's turned off?
Kreftdjur Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Yup, same thing, difference with enb on/off is 2 fps (I optimized my enb setup as much as i could). Another thing i tried just know was lowering resolution from 1080p to 900p. Fps in places where i had no lag increased a lot, but still the same at problematic spots, the ones you see on pictures i posted.
Andy14 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 I am familiar with this problem (even with Vanilla Skrim). However, it was a few years ago. It helped to unpack the skyrim bsa archives and to pack them again uncompressed. The sound.bsa had the greatest effect.

Or should i use bethesda archive extractor. My game is modded with MO2 so my root skyrim floder and data folders are nice and clean.
Kreftdjur Posted September 24, 2020 Author Posted September 24, 2020 So, another thing i noticed is that my gpu and cpu usage drop like a rock when looking at problematic areas. Gpu usage in normaln gameplay is 80-90%, but in these spots in whiterun, solitude etc. my gpu usage drops to below 50% and the lowest number i saw was 33% gpu usage. That cant be normal ? I doubt my laptop is the problem because every other (much more demanding) game runs smooth without hickups and drops.
Andy14 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 I would create a new folder on the desktop. Copy the sound.bsa from Skyrim\Data there. Unzip the bsa there. Then delete bsa there. Create a new sound.bsa there and use it to overwrite the sound.bsa in Skyrim\Data. And of course do a back-up of the bsa beforehand. There are enough unpacking tools, you can also use archive.exe if CK is installed.

I dont have creation kit installed, can I use any other program to create a new sound.bsa with 0% compression ?
Andy14 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Without compression - no. Of course you can also use the loose files (you have unpacked them). Simply copy the sound and music folder to Skyrim\Data. However, it can also be that this does not help you at all. So do you have to know for yourself if you will do it.
Kreftdjur Posted September 24, 2020 Author Posted September 24, 2020 Well i tried loose files and new bsa file, no change at all. Thanks for your help mate.

I remember when I played classic Skyrim, I'd look over Whiterun in the same location and my fps would drop as well. If I recall correctly, once you hit a certain draw call count in your fps drops due to engine limitations(someone correct me if I'm wrong though.) Hey, so yeah i checked those areas and draw calls do go up a lot. When that happens my cpu and gpu usage drop and fps goes down. Any solution ?
Shubal Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Try this for the Whiterun problems https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/79995 It made a big difference for me.

It was the number one reason I switched to SSE, the engine is much better However, your draw call seems within range. I think the max for old skyrim was around 5000-6000 before fps tanked. Sooo, I apologize but I'm kind of at a loss. Have you played around with this setting in your enb at all: "VideoMemorySizeMb=" fwiw, wet and cold mod has always given me issue. EDIT: Probably a shot in the dark, but have you tried disabling "Unofficial Skyrim City Patch" and see if anything changes? I've never used it but maybe there's a conflict? Yes, its set to 8802, the number i got from boris' tool. Normal draw calls are around 2000 when im getting constant 60fps. When fps drops i get over 4000 draw calls. I did almost anything i can think off. I will try to disable that mod, and see what happens, aswell as wet and cold. Thanks for your replies. Reason i dont switch to SE is that i cant get even close to graphical set up i have now without stutters and overall worse performance.
