YellowCorn1212 Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Idk where else to ask this question, I know reddit's gonna just kick me out for spam even though it's a totally valid question. I'm planning my first mage run through of modded skyrim. What are must have mods that will give me the best mage experience without sacrificing balance and immersion? (I'll have on survival mods as well).

With these two, you can actually have five separate playthroughs to specialize in each school of magic and each one will be effective in different ways and in different situations. Be sure to get the compatibility patch on the Apocalypse page, though.
Potato_Skill Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Forgotten Magic Redone. This mod gives you more unique spells which have their own levels. When you level up a spell, you get 1 "talent point" which then you can use to unlock addition effects. Also, if you're really dedicated to a path of magic (druid, paladin, warlock, ....) you get "affinity points" which further buff the overall damage/efficient of that path. In other word, the more you use them, the better they get. Path of the Anti-Mage. As the name suggests, this mod gives you a new path of magic, Anti-magic. You're the bane of all mages yet you're a mage yourself. Can't get any cooler than that.

The ordinator looks interesting and i love the idea except the amount of nodes it has... Would there be enough skillpoints to spread around? Or would you basically be focused on one skill tree?

Hmmm, well I would say that they put mages on the same level as heavy-armored warriors or sneaky cutthroats. Not that it will make things a cakewalk, but you will probably feel like you stand a chance without having to swallow a hundred wheels of cheese on every fight. 4 minutes ago, YellowCorn1212 said: The ordinator looks interesting and i love the idea except the amount of nodes it has... That being said, you won't be wanting to use every branch of every tree. I usually find myself having one main skill that I put as many points into as I can for the skill level and the perks I will actually use and two secondary trees that I put points into whenever I don't have anything I want and can get on my main skill. As an alternative, there's a lighter version by the same guy, but I've never actually used it: Vokrii

Like would the anti magic area nullify your magic too? Also I feel like it would make any character a little too strong. I might actually install magic redone. I wanna install others too but i dont' want to drown in so many magic options lol

Lol I didn't know the mage life was like that. Maybe i'll need all 100 of those magic spells after all. There are so many good ones i don't know which to choose from. I might go with apocalypse as that's number one on many lists i've seen. Can't wait!
Potato_Skill Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 1 minute ago, YellowCorn1212 said: would the anti magic area nullify your magic too? Yup, any magic user who steps in that bubble have to man up and melee fight so keep a dagger with you just in case. You see, in the vanilla game, being a mage means pretty much fire-balling a guy to death or conjuring something to take all the aggro while you stay back and chip away the enemies' health. With PoTAM, your approaches to taking down a mage are much broader as you have many tricks up your sleeve just to encounter a mage (or a group of mages, the magic nullify area is there for that reason). You don't have to worry about being OP because those spells come with grinding, you have to level up your anti magic to be able to cast advanced spells. Take your time checking the mods out. The 2 options I gave you have two things in common - they both give you magic that requires devotion down a path and are both unique in their own way of doing so.

I really love the idea of investing in one tree, especially since i'll be roleplaying yennefer from the witcher who's primarily an electricity user afaik. I'll definitely give all of them a good look.
