Best mod install/laoding software?

Hi all,

Was new to the forums over last summer when I tried modding Oblivion (unsuccessfully) on a PC that really wasn't up to the task, and now that I'm only a couple weeks out from ordering parts for my first scratch built system, I've been looking into modding Skyrim ahead of time.

When I was here last summer, I learned ALOT about how to mod Oblivion from forum posts such as http://www.loverslab.com/topic/8893-installation-guide-with-lovers-mbp-and-wyre-with-bashed-patch/ and http://www.loverslab.com/topic/6799-lovers-plugin-index-with-direct-links/

First off, just wondering if something equivalent exists for Skyrim as of yet (assuming I haven't completely passed over something this as I seem to be blind at times)?

But the bigger reason for this post is to ask about which programs area alternatives to NMM for loading up my Skyrim mods. For Oblivion, I remembering shucking NMM in favor of OBMM, WyreBach, and BOSS as I could actually load the Lovers mods for Oblivion and have more control of sorting and arranging the load order. Been looking around the net and I can't seem to find an equivalent set of programs for Skyrim (assuming the blindness isn't hampering me). I really want to use quite a bit of the content from LL and I seem to have the impression that NMM might not be best suited to the task. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm using Wrye Bash + BOSS + TES5 Edit. Very powerful pack of tools to eliminate any loading order problem and much more.

thanks!

I seem to recall reading recently that the team behind Wyre wasn't supporting it as much these days (think I read that on the Wyre page at nexus if I recall) but I'm assuming all is well still since you seem to be using it without probs...

They haven't touched it in like a year. It still works though, just has limited uses compared to versions for other games. e.g. fallout 3, oblivion, etc.

Tes5Edit does most of the merging functions that Wrye bash is known for. The Skyrim bashed patch only merges leveled lists and ini tweaks, but Tes5Edit merges all your references so you can forgo the bashed patch if you need the room and don't have any mergable esps, cause it's fairly weak. There are people working on Wrye bash but they don't know papyrus so it's not going anywhere just getting lite bug fixes.

You can just use NMM and TesEdit if you don't use a lot of mods since TesEdit will knock off most of your conflicts with its merged patch. NMM is better than the BAIN installer for obvious functional reasons. Update notices, on board endorsement buttons, on site downloads.

I still use Wrye bash for its bashed patch and easy save game overview. But I've been using it for years so its hard to quit.

Haha, understood.. I haven't been using it nearly as long, and I still have a knee-jerk reaction to use it based on its total awesomeness for Oblivion...

Came across this as well for a possible replacer for OBMM TesModManager - OblivionModManager for Skyrim and Oblivion

any thoughts?

Don't look at me, I hate Oblivion. Looks the same as the OBMM.  I just really, really, really, really, hate making OMods. I can mod Oblivion to the point that there are next to no conflicts and patch it to the point where bugs are a console problem but that game will still crash. Not to mention that I don't think its fun.

So my option is super bias. When I hear "Oblivion",  I think Divine wrought Plagues attacking Bethesda. Instead of anything useful.

LOL...

I never did finish an Oblivion playthrough, even on console, but I seemed to rather like OBMM, and making the OMODs (while time consuming) seemed to make life so much easier in the event of starting from scratch (which I did multiple times seeing as I tried modding it for a computer that was sorely underpowered to handle the game and didn't really know what I was doing)...

Either way, I guess I'll figure all this out in due time as I'm only 1 week away from placing my parts order :)

Thanks for the honesty though...

@ Morra (or anyone else who can answer)... are thier any tutorials for using Wrye Bash + BOSS + TES5 Edit for modding purposes. I can honestly say that if it weren't for the Oblivon modding sticky posts http://www.loverslab...h-bashed-patch/ and  http://www.loverslab...h-direct-links/ that I would have taken SO much longer to get half the clue that info provided me. Not the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to modding you could say :)

There are plenty of tutorials and documentation that you can find just googling it, which covers pretty well all the information you need. But...

From my point of view the most easiest way for people to understand something about modding and how to use the proposed tools to achieve your goals is just watch two great videos which covers all necessary information about BOSS and TES5 Edit. For Wrye Bash I used it's own documentation but I'm sure you can find some videos about it too.
