All I did was rename my steamapps folder to steamapps_old, and went to Steam and clicked "install game", so every single file is still there. Problem is, I had this problem then too. It's part of the reason I reinstalled Skyrim (switching to MO was the main reason). Do you feel like copying your face textures and sending to me? I'm certainly not reinstalling Skyrim again...

If you're using a whole lot of appearance mods, some of which may be bugged, and it's causing these problems, I'm confused as to why you would wish to keep them. But, let's try something else... (*Installing my files won't fix it either - they would simply be being installed over the top of an existing problem. You would be better off picking a skin textures pack from the Nexus and installing it as a quick test to see if the problem disappears) Now that you are using NMM, you can properly examine your load order, and use it to help with troubleshooting. It would be a good idea to supply your load order here - It may simply be that you have conflicting appearance mods and they are being loaded in the incorrect order. This can at times cause problems which look exactly like those you're experiencing (I'm guessing it may well be that "All NPCs have Apachii Hair Now Etc." mod, or something similar, conflicting with something else). It's also something good to know for future tech-support posts if something goes wrong. Here's how: - Open NMM - Click on the "Plugins" tab at the top-left. - Below this is a column of little icons (tick, arrows, etc.). Mouse over the ones which look like little pieces of paper. One will be "Eport the Current Load Order". Click this. - Save to clipboard. - Open a new post here. - Create "spoiler tags" ( {spoiler} {/spoiler} - use the square brackets though, not these other ones ). - Click in between the tags, and press CTRL+V to paste your load order. Done! Now, in the meantime, let's get you using BOSS to sort your load order. This can sort out many conflicts - BOSS will take note of all the plugins (eg: .esp's, .esm's, and so-on) in your Data folder, and properly sort them so that they will (hopefully) load in the correct order and not conflict. BOSS has a page at Nexus which includes further description. Let's get it set up: - Download BOSS from http://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/downloads/detail?name=BOSS%20v2.1.1%20Installer.exe&can=2&q= (***Current version as of 19/07/13 - for later readers, check BOSS's Google page. Eg: Google for most recent version) - Run the Installer. Don't monkey around with it - keep it default unless you know what you're doing. - Run BOSS (*TIP: I always keep a shortcut of the BOSS.exe in my Data folder so it's easy for me to find). Let it run. BOSS will pop-up a webpage when it is done, showing you what it has done, and letting you know if there are problems. ***Bear in mind - BOSS will not recognise everything. It is not omnipotent. If you are using a collection of obscure "OMGPinkAnimeSexElephantsWearingFrankenfurterArmourAndStuffzorzzz.esp" mods, or simply a lot of the less well-known mods (or in some cases, your own home-brewed plugins), BOSS won't know them. Anything BOSS does not recognise will be bumped down to the bottom of your load order. You can see a full list of what has and has not been recognised at the webpage BOSS will show you. - Open NMM, and your new load order will show under the "Plugins" tab. - Load your game & see if the problem is fixed (if need be, start a NEW game & take a quick look to see if there's any difference). If yes? Great! If no? Well, here's what we'll try next: - Go to your NMM Plugins list. - Click the little box to the left of each Plugin. This switches them OFF. Switch them all off. - Open Skyrim again to see if the problem is present. - If it is, you know that you probably have bugged install issues - junk your mods (for real this time) and reinstall the game. - If it isn't, CLOSE the game, go to NMM, and turn each mod back on, one by one. After EVERY mod you turn back on, load up your game and see if the problem reappears. When it does, you know that mod is causing the problem. Get rid of it. Big post is big.
AwfulArchdemon Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 I don't use NMM. I use MO. I plan on simply erasing my face textures, and adding vanilla files to my face. I don't have vanilla files though. Not in this steamapps folder or my old one. That's why I asked for them. Oh, and I don't even use BOSS anymore. I know where my stuff needs to go. If I were to install a bunch more mods, then I'd run it. Anyway, here's my load order: Edit: Children of the Sky is being used right now. It's not my main character, I just wanted to learn how to get it installed properly through MO. I use an imperial normally. The issue is there on both characters, so I don't blame CotS. (fyi)

I've never seen another hair overhaul anywhere, and I love the way everyone's hair looks right now with Apachii.

Probably because I didn't know this mod was responsible for this bulls***. That's what happens when you have far too many mods. Good thing I reinstalled Skyrim, and narrowed down the # of mods it could've been. It was even easier to narrow it down when FastestDogInTheDistrict pointed out exactly which mod caused this mess, so thanks a shiload FDITD!! Man am I glad to be rid of that crap. Had this problem for like 6 months! btw. Maybe consider choosing a shorter name? (FastestDogInTheDistrict [27 letters] = feels like I'm typing my PayPal password)

Go to Steam, and click 'view', then screenshots, and when the open up, look at the bottom right for 'Show on Disk'. That will take you to them. Are you using the custom race for RS? Using those kinds of races usually introduces a dark face bug for me. Usually means one of the kids was made without exporting their textures/meshes, or somewhere along the line, a file got corrupted/replaced. That was how my experiences went for a while. Just skimmed through though. Don't have the time to study it at the moment.

Don't have the time to study it at the moment. i dont have any playable races for rs children if thats what you ment.. and im not sure about races for it .. i never downloaded an i only downloaded rs and clicked the bigger heads and player facial other than that nope..
AwfulArchdemon Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 I would have figured apachii was the cause, but if you uninstalled it, you either left a file behind, or something else is causing it. If you were to make a custom follower right now, and didn't export the textures/meshes, you'd get that bug. I suspect you're totally missing a facegen texture file for the people with the bug. Need to fill in the blanks the same way as the other race's face files.
worldcompany Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 the thing is all ur problem are on: (textures)(meshes)\actors\character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom\skyrim.esm because its not a simple put .esp and .bsa, if you see you add files too, then if you uninstall the mod, then delete the junk there too... try to not overwrite faces next time. Its not simple there are neck issue too.

So I deactivated pretty much everything but UNP body on MO, but the seams were still there. Then I installed CBBE and the seams were gone but not knowing what was causing it I activated all the mods and started playing again and soon enough the gray face came back. Now no matter what body I use the grey face is always there except for vanilla body. I tried uninstalling all body texture related mods and nothing, is my only option reinstalling? I managed to fix it by uninstalling every mod with files in Skyrim.esp not sure which one caused it though

Its like this if I were to install SBF-All in One which would change follower females ok. Then I install another mod that changes those same females....Lets Say Follower Overhaul The trouble with fixing this bug with a manager that is not Mod Manager is tough. See you have to observe that the FILES are overwritten and also the ESP's (x2) in your load order matters as well. So in this case the Files Provided by SBF are gone, they were overwritten by FO. But the thing is FO might get placed higher in the Load Order than SBF. So SBF is looking at the new color files and stuff just doesn't line up, so blam you got grey face. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Grey Face can also happen if the ESP file is missing packaged actual color files. So the same result can happen. Also some mods that overhaul stuff didn't have properly named folder paths. ----------------------------------------------- If your actually trying to refer to BlackFace or BlackBody Bug which these two often get mistaken for well that's an entirely different thing. For Black Skin bug which is pure black, your running into a Video Card Problem where the memory just isn't there to use the texture files in game. Can happen because your skin files are too big or even cause you've overwhelmed the card with a lot of high res textures. The problem can go unaddressed because sometimes simply powering down the game or computer to cool off the card can be enough to temporarily relieve this bug. The real fix to black bug is to reduce texture sizes or get a better Vcard.
