logcen Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hi can anybody teach me how to remove a portion of a texture from an armor mesh? I am trying to remove the white sock from the heels in the Kaine armor from Morten's ports and have come to an impasse. I have tried making it transparent by adding a NiAlphaProperty in Nifskope with a completely blacked out Alpha layer in photoshop which had no effect. I also tried changing the texture path to match the other foot under the BSShaderTextureSet without success. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Bring it up with nifskope first thing you need to do is find out if there is a foot behind the sock so right click it and go down to block and select remove if there's a foot under it then that means you will be able to work with the texture otherwise if there's no foot under it when you remove the texture for it and put the outfit on your feet will be invisible and you would have to use something like 3d-max to port feet into it for the feet to show up. If there are feet under it reload the nif file then go to render and select setting follow the path to where you have the file at if it's in your skyrim folder select the data file and hit render and the outfit should now have the textures showing. Find the file that has the socks on it and place it into gimp make sure you have the .dds plugin so that it can read .dds files. Only mess with the ones that have like outfit.dds and so forth don't do anything with the ones that have n.dds or other letters those you don't do anything with. Select the lasso tool and go around the sock zoom in if you need to for tight spots go all the way around and click the first dot to connect them. Right click and go to edit and select clear then go to file and select overwrite .dds file look at nifskope to see if there was a change if not right click it and go to node and select add property then add the NiAlphaProperty it should disappear. Look at it and make sure it looks how you want it to look if not go to edit and select undo then overwrite .dds file and try again. Now that it has disappeared hit the save as on nifskope to overwrite the nif file and since there are usually 2 nif files to each piece of an outfit/item you will have to do the same thing to the 2nd one as you did to the first one otherwise it will not show up in game.
logcen Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Thanks for the fast response! Darn there's no foot behind sock. Guess I need to import a foot with Blender. Since only one foot has a sock on it, would I be able to take the texture off the other foot and apply it over the sock? Don't know if that makes any sense.

It has to be a foot the texture is nothing without the other like a outfit that doesn't have a body beneath it you would have to import a body type into it for the texture files to work.
