FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Has anyone else encountered the bug where Heimskr is wearing prisoner clothing (ie: "Ragged Robes") instead of his robes? I have tried all the usual console-inventory tricks, plus resetting his AI, etc., but he seems hell-bent on living out his days in rags. The only other way I can think of is to use the CK to create a "new" set of Heimskr robes with a slightly higher armour value (which will prompt him to default to them & stick with them once equipped). For reference - I completed Civil War, the Stormcloaks won. Additionally, some time following the Stormcloak victory, the new commander of the guard is wearing Whiterun guard armour (mustard cloak), not Stormcloak. No idea if this is supposed to occur or not. Here is my load order:
Xarius Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 go get tes5edit and look at what changes heimsker/his outfit also you aren't using BOSS and thus your load order looks messed up
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 go get tes5edit and look at what changes heimsker/his outfit also you aren't using BOSS and thus your load order looks messed up I don't actually have any Heimskr mod yet - I was considering this as a workaround, but I have not actually done it as yet. Additionally, I did read on the Bethesda forums that TESEdit was causing problems (possibly in its current form at the time), and I have not used it. I realised a while back that I had forgotten about BOSS with this install, but as it's generally been the most stable and bug-free install I've ever had (apart from a minor quibble or two - certainly *very* few - such as this one with Heimskr), I really haven't noticed the lack (also, I cannot work out how to get BOSS to *recognise* a mod, and anything it doesn't recognise it kicks down to the bottom of the list regardless of where it actually needs to be), so I haven't worried about it. What is messed up exactly?
Xarius Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 TesVSnip was the one causing issue. Tes5Edit is fine. BOSS -> Edit User Rules to add unrecognized or modify the masterlist load order.
polluxval Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 for me, that old bum dont talk. never, even without any mod. when something in a bethesda game stop working, its baaad...
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 TesVSnip was the one causing issue. Tes5Edit is fine. BOSS -> Edit User Rules to add unrecognized or modify the masterlist load order. Ah-HA! Yes - you're right, now I remember! Got the names mixed! Before doing anything else, I tried disabling *all* my plugins and the problem does not disappear. It must be embedded in a save. Could it possibly be a quest glitch? If it helps - I finished the main quest up to "Bring a Follower to Delphine" (currently working on some followers, so I've put-off this part) *BEFORE* starting the Civil War, joining the Stormcloaks & then leading them to victory. I know that Heimskr gets sent to prison if the Imperials win - it's almost as though the game is clothing him for an Imperial win instead. He also frequently uses the surly "What do you want, milk-drinker?" greeting. UPDATE: Yes, in earlier saves he still wears his correct clothing, and is noticeably more cheerful. UPDATE: Okay - I ran "TES5Edit". There were two load order tweaks needed (the "More Interactive Items" and "Ars Metallica" plugins & their Dawnguard additions were the wrong way 'round). Fixed those. Also - "Lust Design Dovahkin Mercenary Armour" gave TES5Edit a fit of the screaming ab-dabs. I had it installed, but I don't actually use it. Removed that. Here's the final log:
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 ... I still can't fix this. I ran TES5Edit & let it do its thang, took the required actions (see above), ran BOSS, deleted approximately the last 100 savegames in my list, yet when I take Whiterun for the Stormcloaks, afterward upon my return to the city he is wearing a prison outfit. Rrr! Also... why is BOSS telling me to clean my game's core .ESM's (eg: Dawnguard.esm)? Is this even adviseable? I've never, *ever* edited them yet BOSS says they contain dirty edits & need cleaning... (Can't see a way to include a BOSS log here - are they stored somewhere by any chance, or is the online record the only one available?)
sora3 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Dirty edits are present in most of the DLCs because, well, they unintentionally change things when they shouldn't. After all, that's the problem with DLCs. I'd usually clean them as it isn't a problem unless you really have a lot of CTDs. Looking at your mods, it'll have to be a mod that edits that particular quest as I remember that Heimskr's home get Fus-Do-Rah'ed into Oblivion which causes him to change so you'll need to check the quest mods specifically.

I'm gunna go ahead & give this one a polite *bump* - it's not something I'm having any luck resolving on my own. In the end I junked all my saves & re-installed & re-started. It really bugged me though & I'd like to try & get to the bottom of what was causing it...
HentaiGnome Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I don't know if you've figured out the culprit yet, but if I'd had to guess it's due to the Unofficial Skyrim Patch: http://www.iguanadons.net/Unofficial%20Skyrim%20Patch%20Version%20History.html Do a CTRL+F (Find) on your web browser and look for the keyword "Heimskr", you'll notice the patch affects him after the Civil War questline as it should be. In other words, he's either supposed to be in jail (if Imperials win) or he's supposed to be walking around in ragged clothes (if Stormcloaks win) simply because his house gets destroyed in the process. EDIT: For the record, this is exactly how it is in my game. And the only mods I have are the Unofficial Skyrim Patches (plus Dawnguard, Hearthfire, High Rez Textures), "When Vampires Attack", "Run For Your Lives", and an ENB preset. That's all. And I have Heimskr walking around in ragged clothes after Civil War.

Yes, I had been moving in this direction (if fact, I had posted only recently on the Unofficial Patch mod page at Nexus to enquire if this was the case, but had not yet received a reply). This would make perfect sense - and this is exactly the confirmation I was seeking! Many, many thanks indeed for taking the time to post here, HentaiGnome!

To be fair, with so many mods, weird unexpected changes like that COULD have been caused by anything, really. I was just lucky to know it was the Unofficial Patches because I noticed that "issue" a well one day when I was playing, but it also helped that I only have a few mods installed. Anyway, happy Skyriming.
