NPC pained grunts Gender Changed

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am having this weird glitch where the Gender voice of Pained Grunts of NPCs have changed. Meaning that when Male NPCs get hit they occasionally make Female NPC pain voices. I started noticing this during the Night caller Mission with Erandur occasionally making female pain voices . I don't think it happened before that, as I am very observant and would have noticed. After Erandur the Orcs in the temple would do the same thing occasionally and now I am even noticing it with some Thalmor sent after me. Please Help!

Many Thanks!!

NPC's are set with specific voice set and, afaik, everything is taken from that.

My first guess would have been that you've installed a mod that affects character voices in someway but, as you said, you're very observant and would have noticed that you had done something like that.

Seriously, I've not heard of this as a vanilla bug and I doubt you are running vanilla Skyrim anyway or you wouldn't be asking here. Check your mods, it's most likely something you installed.

I went back to the save before I ever went to dawnstar and did some testing on NPCs and I noticed something very weird.

The NPC id seem to be changing when I use Console Command!

I created a save and in the save I used console command to spawn a thalmor soldier. However when I reloaded the save and tried to spawn one again I got a Thalmor Justiciar instead!

When I tried to use the same exact id I got a Silver hand instead! Is this supposed to happen? Is Skyrim supposed to change the NPC id everytime you reload the save?

I wonder if this has something to do with the Voices randomly changing?

Thanks for your response man, Is it possible revenge for the enemies ( a great mod indeed) might be causing this? Because one of the npcs I ended up loading was from that mod. As I said in the previous comment If I use the same console command in a particular save it only spawns a particular type of NPCS, but If I reload the very same save, the NPC Id seems to have changed which means using the Same console command spawns an altogether different type of NPC.

However, I've also noticed that when Hit a certain NPC will often make male pain sounds as expected and occasionally change to Female version in that same save without reloading.

The code that is rendering different objects, what id are you using for code? I would reference that id into xedit(Form ID box,top left xedit) with all mods that you have active and see what the id is suppose to be grabbing. Curious on this, I say nothing can change a id#. I would guess you use different codes unless a leveled list has its own id#

The opposite gender grunts has provoked my curiosity as well, really don't know though, thats a tough one because none of us knows where those grunts are applied through, I would guess dialogue/quest.

I looked in my copy of Revenge of the Enemies, might not have current version on my end,but the few things it overwrites/touches that is vanilla would not affect battle grints.

If you don't use NMM, disable all mods except base DLCs and Alt Start,Usleep if you use it,and go into to game and make sure your good there

I am using the ` key to access console command ingame and then I would apply player.placeatme "ID" 1  However I get a different Kind of NPC if I load the Save everytime. IN some saves I actually would a get different type of draugr in the same save game without loading a new one.

As for uninstalling the mods, I am using Mod Organizer 2 and I fear If I were to do that I might mess up the saves. Thanks for your help!

MO1 has a feature im sure mo2 has where you can save you Load Order to 1 of 3 profiles, Left and Right windows.

Blue button creates back up:

Yellow Arrow brings up your backups:

MO2 has same feature:

Being your MO user you can only create small setbacks that would easily be remedied anyways, the minor set back is when you deactivate mods that is in fnis report and you don't rerun fnis or disable it,and all related mods, in LO temporarily, very safe with MO. If your disabling any fnis mods and rerunning fnis or disabling fnis and all related mod to fnis, test on new game.

"ID"  which id# generated different results,   or is that the literal code your using? I'm guessing your plugging in specific id#'s where you have ID in the quotations.

I've never used the MO Backup, Had never needed to. I was an NMM user when I played Skyrim on a different Laptop Which I am no longer using. Even on Mod Organizer 2 I never had any issues which needed this, I was always able to get what I wanted running.

By ID I mean The NPC ID I would type HELP Thalmor 0 and would type the ID it returned. The Thing is the ID itself would change from after reloading the same save game. At one time it spawned Draugr with an ID Which After I typed it again and again would spawn a different type of Draugr in the same saved game.

Is there anyway to find out how the Grunts are applied as you earlier stated?

Short answer is yes, It's a tough one though, I can't help but think there should be a custom voice follower out there that has custom, what I call, "Battle Cries". If that's the case, they figured it out.

There is dialogue attached to combat,we all have heard it.I think Lydia will sometimes say in combat "Im kill you" or, "This is the end for you" I think grunts are applied in same place. I have been through a lot of vanilla sound files, voice files, and the sound files for grunts are in with every specific voice type, so that's a clue too. This is weird because voice type is where grunts are found, when you here female grunt from male player they are not sharing the same voice.

Does this happen with all followers? hopefully not. You need to test with followers that have different voice types, if you use female followers, take a follower with femaleoungeager into battle, femaleventoned into battle, femaleelfhaughty into battle ect, ect, ect.

I still stay since your a  MO users, backup mod order, left window, backup plugin order(Right Window)

right click anywhere in left window and choose disable all mods, this will uncheck all mods in left window which will remove all plugins in right window. Only Skyrim,DawnGuard,Hearthfire, and DragonBorn will be active, activate alt start. If your using fnis and animation mods don't worry. if only skyrim and dlcs+ alt start is active your fine.

Go in and start new game and test, you should be good. Then it is a matter of finding cuprit mod. If you go in and confirm your good with only mentioned mods report back. The only way I see you not being good when you do this test is if you did not have pristine data folder when installing MO, Im sure your good on test though it needs to be confirmed.

I've not had the error long enough to have seen it with other NPCs. I've noticed that has only happened with Mer Males (Erandur (Dark Elf) , orcs and a Thalmor Male) and the female voice they had were always Nord Females ( My player Character is also a Nord Female). I do not use followers a lot so guess I'll have to test that part again.  I deactivated the lip sync mod and tried again. Even that did not work. some of my latest mods are Niruin's Business plan, Spanking mod and Dark Arena and Sleep anywhere I'll have to uninstall them and check if that does anything.

Thanks so much for Helping!

Skyrim - Voices.bsa

Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

Are these the where the Voices would be?

How do I open this code and check for the voices?

Would this help? This is from the Skyrim Data Folder. Is it possible for any mods to overwrite those?

You don't need to open those files, the voice.bsa. If you want to anyways you have to copy and paste it somewhere and play with copied version. There is virtually no chance the problem is in those bsa's

Skyrim - Voices.bsa has all skyrim voice files, VoicesExtra I believe is from DLC's

With MO,data in bsa's could get overwriting, but it would be outside of data folder. The sound files in Voices.bsa are not the problem, MO will not allow a mod to make changes to esp's,esm's or bsa's in data folder, all changes to those file would take place in your MO/Mods folder, from with in a mod.

I'm looking at what said here:

I haven't made any ideas out if it yet, but this sounds like clue that pertains to problem.

-Temporarily deactivate newly installed mods and test on a new game, or revert back to a save prior to those mods being introduced, good chance problem will be gone, and then load one back at a time(or do 2) and find problem mod,

I uninstall some mods and tested. Issue was NOT solved. I Just did some testing on a Male StormCloak Soldier that I spawned using Console Command. Even he made the same Nord Woman Grunting sound when attacked by my Familiar.

So it seems the issue is NOT limited to just Mer males at least nords make it too.

I am going to uninstall one more mod and see how that works out.

Correction! The Pained Female Grunts made by all these male NPCs whether Mer or Nord were the same as the Female Player Character Grunt sounds! Since I am playing Nord Female I assumed that were the default ones. These are also made by some other NPCs.

if you have gone into game and tested without any of your new mods present and problem is still there, the next step would be to go into game with only skyrim, dlc's,and alt start and make sure your good there. just back up your mod order(left window) and your plugin's order(right window), never fails.

basically if that's not good we got problems that playing with your load order, or looking for culprit mod, will not solve.

You either had a problem with data folder prior to Installing MO or you got mod problem. Lets rule out bad data folder prior to MO install by testing in game with only the Skyrim,DLC's, and Alt Start.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to do that. Tried with uninstalling some more mods. No use. let's see how it goes from now.
