How to make a race vampire compatible?

I've downloaded a few race mods that have some unique features.  Some of them don't turn into vampires properly and default to Nord.  I understand there are extra steps to make a race vampire compatible that not every race mod author does.

I'd like to do it myself, and on top of that I'd like to make them Sacrosanct compatible.  Is it difficult?  Do I have to add or alter textures to keep these races with the same meshes and features?  Is it just a matter of adding a folder somewhere?  I'm very unclear on how to do this.

Your best bet is to use RaceCompatibility, which was created for this very purpose. There's also Creating a Playable Race - Revised, which should guide you through the process of setting up RC support for a custom race.

Do note that IIRC that guide includes all the steps to create a custom race from scratch, so since the ones you would be editing already exist and work, the most relevant parts would be the ones about vampires and the RaceCompatibility quest.

I appreciate the advice.  I have racecompatibility already.  The problem is only for a few specific races where I suspect the mod author was either new, or didn't care enough to take the proper steps for making them fully vampire compatible.

But the big problem also has to do with Sacrosanct, my favorite vampire mod.  Even fewer races are compatible with that one.  I don't know how to make them compatible.  Maybe I can look at the ones that are compatible and try to see what the differences are.

Yeah, figured as much. RC is only a framework for custom race vampire compatibility, it still needs to have some work done on the races themselves to have them support RC in the first place. That's why I linked the guide; while the basic info on creating a race isn't of much use with that part already done, there's also info on how to add RC support for a custom race too, and that's the one you want.

I have Sacrosanct and use it with RaceCompatibility-enabled custom races and it works just fine. I think RC has a Sacrosanct patch available in its installer that takes care of everything, the only thing you need to do is to install RC after Sacrosanct so the RC scripts can override Sacrosanct's own ones and add the custom race support.

Now I just need to figure out how to setup creation kit.  I've been hesitant to try because I heard doing it wrong can break the game.  I don't want to do another reinstall just yet.  Then maybe I can try to make my own custom race.

So i just did this...with NMM installed the loose scrips from scripts.rar (you should have it on your game folder,if not it's available on reddit)

You also need that file, mine was missing. i read you should install it here

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source

Or here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Papyrus Compiler

to be sure i put it in both folders.

Here is the link to scripts.rar:

SOURCE:

After you do this, you create the quest and uninstall the scripts through NMM,vortex... and also if you want make a backup of the folder before installing.

Install creation kit you mean?  (Been a while since I was on this thread. )  I use MO so it's a bit more complicated.  I'm also not a very technical person.

No.I mean install that Scripts.rar folder with MO (cause u dont wanna lose SKSE scripts,DO ur CK thing, andthen uninstall. The scritps .rar folder. (or simply make a copy of ur scripts folder and install manually)

Creation kit should already be installed if u are doing this.

Oh you mean installing loose data scripts for vampire/sacrosanct compatibility?  Or am I mistaken?  I'm not entirely sure what you are saying.

You need papyrus script compiler to be installed.

Or your creation kit won't be able to do any script.they'll end up failing. so you need to a few things:

GO in your mod manager and install the scripts.rar folder i linked you, then you can open CK and do scripts.after you finish with the tutorial below uninstall it. >> DOESNT MATTER ABOUT VAMPIRES OR SACROSANT WHATEVER. if you o not install them the script CANNOT be compiled, and bye bye to your race :)

Don't be so sure with me ^-^ lol.

Thank you very much.  I think I understand and will give it a try when I have the time.  ATM I am trying to fix a problem so I've had to put this little project on the back burner.

EDIT: The scripts download isn't working for me.  I can see google drive but when I click download it just tries to load forever.  I will try again later.  Maybe something is wrong with my connection today.
