Is AAF a replacement for FourPlay?

I'm new here and apoligise if my question sounds ignorant. I'm just strating to understand how mods here work. I noticed that majority of adult mods here require FourPlay. Is AAF somewhat similar to FP? I'm not comparing the two mods but are they essentially the same in terms of what its trying to achieve? Is AAF basically the "new" FP?

Yes, FP used to be the old animations framework and AAF is the replacement. 

 

The majority of mods have been updated and converted to AAF though, if you find one using FP - you're almost guaranteed to find its AAF conversion these days.
