Incubusbul Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 I've never had such a stable game - no CTDs, no issues whatsoever. Smooth gaming with 60 fps all the time. Until yesterday, when I was hit by this nasty Grod ransomware. It managed to encrypt a few terabytes of my personal data before I realize what's happening and turn off the PC. I did some cleaning, following some instructions online, but couldn't restore my files. Anyway, except for the ransom message from those morons, which is now in almost every folder (including Steam main folder and sub-folders), the game seems to be intact (it's installed on my drive C, which is a SSD). Only it can't load anymore. I receive the following message every time I try: Spoiler Any suggestions? Anyone with a similar experience?

arya656 Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 My advice. 1a: if i am correct some files neccesary to run skyrim are found in the users tab in mygames/skyrim if anything is encrypted there. 1b. If you still have the ransomware problem, either go to the repairshop or reinstall everything. And j mean EVERYTHING. Next, if you don't have a antivirus program buy one. Most powerful ones cost money. 2a. Reinstall skyrim or reset windows to an earlier version of itself. system repair i think its called. 2b. don't know sorry. For the record i have absolute no expirience with ransomware. So check these options with someone in the knowhow.
Tron91 Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 "Prevention is better than Cure." My Laptop is always connected to Internet. I have an antivirus subscription which uses incremental updates and usually gets updated twice or thrice daily. Disable the Autorun feature of Windows and try not to use Removable Media which are used on many machines. DO NOT open E-Mails from unknown sources. Avoid unknown browser addons and if possible keep monitoring Internet Usage in Task Manager. Any unsolicited network traffic means something is coming or moving from your machine. If you have to visit some web-sites of shady nature, use Tor Browsers and use In-private sessions so that nothing goes to your hard disk.
Incubusbul Posted November 17, 2019 Author Posted November 17, 2019 Thanks all. I've been struggling to repair what's possible after the hit, but yes, apparently the game is gone, and so is a huge collection of photos and other multimedia. There's little hope that if I keep them, a "cure" might emerge in some unforeseeable future, but I wouldn't count on that. And yes, my false sense of security, which let me bravely browse the internet without an antivirus software for years is gone too.
