Does anyone do a "dating sim" type thing, where you control a male character, but add mods or self-imposed rules to make it harder to get women?

One of the things that kinda damps my enthusiasm for The Sims as a sex game is how easy it is to get sex. Even though Sims 4 adds the personality types and stuff that affects who a sim is attracted to, it really seems like just talking to someone persistently is all it takes to make them sleep with you. One of the homebrew games modes I recently tried was doing like a harem thing, where I intended to mainly use an abduction mod to add women to my character's household, but it didn't take long to realize that just doing it the old-fashioned way (having a few conversations with them, and then asking them to Move In) was almost as easy. To me, that's less sexy. Part of the fun of sex games for me is anticipation. If I just want to skip straight to the sex, I could watch porn. I want there to be a process of building up to it and feeling like you did something to earn it.

So now, I'm thinking about ways that I can add some self-imposed restrictions to make it so my character can't just get a fuck buddy whenever he wants. Things like, if you're talking to a girl and she starts to walk away, you can't just reengage with her (since the game automatically has a character stop walking away when you select a conversation option, this makes it too easy to keep a conversation going for a long time), and you can't talk to the same girl more than once per day (unless she initiates); also, an amount of money you need to have before you can ask a girl to move in with you, so that it'll force me to do work and other stuff like that besides just picking up girls.

Does anyone else play like this? If so, what kind of rules do you put on yourself?

Does WickedWhims attractiveness system helps in some way ? I read the feature description and it was pretty interesting. I didn't have the opportunity to test it though ?

I feel the same as you on this topic. It's a common problem in sex or dating games. I can't say I played a lot but the few I played had very basic dating processes.

For a few months before working on my project I worked on a draft of how we could make an interesting and challenging dating game. I initially planned to make a text-based dating game (more or less like Newlife from Splendid Ostrich, I recommend you to give it a try if you don't know it) and switched to Sims 4 modding with the ambition to implement a few rules in it.

There might be a few things you could do about it by modding the XMLs. For instance if you want to be prevented to reengage too fast, you can either increase the debuff for repetitiveness (which will cause your sim to have less chance to succeed if you immediately repeat the action) or increase the action availability delay (the action is not available anymore before you wait a given delay). Both those values can be changed in the XMLs.

I don't know if you are a modder or not. If not, maybe it's a good day to start ?

I think we are pretty much good with animations by now. Innovation is in such mods don't you think ? ?

To be honest, I've never even played Sims 4 without WW, so I don't really know what the vanilla experience is like. But if the WickedWhims attractiveness system is the thing that makes popups in the top right say what kind of people a sim is attracted to, my experience is that it doesn't really do much to prevent someone from liking (or loving) you if you just keep talking to them enough.

Thanks, but I'm a very visual guy, so text-based doesn't really do it for me. I've actually had a few ideas for adult games myself (and I have some basic programming skills), but even my own ideas don't really interest me without the art.

The reengaging thing is really just about what can be done with self-imposed rules (just deciding to behave a certain way as the player because that's easier than changing things in the game). If I were actually gonna mod the game, I think I'd want it to be something more like "this sim is a health nut, so you can't get above 50% affection with her unless you have your fitness skill at level 4 and cooking at level 2, and you wouldn't be able to have sex with her unless you're at fitness level 6 and beat her in a sparring match" (for example). That way, it wouldn't just be a matter of persistently talking to her, you'd actually have to change or improve things about yourself to get her to like you (and maybe you wouldn't even know what those things are automatically, so maybe talking to her would be what reveals the clues about how to earn more of her affection).

EDIT: I think if I wanted to merge the "dating sim" thing with the "harem/polyamory" thing, I think there would need to be some kind of function where asking a sim to Move In (if you already have another sim of the same gender in your household) implicitly involves you telling them that she won't be your only girlfriend, and if she agrees, then she won't ever get jealous if she sees you wooing someone else (I think WW or one of the other mods I picked up already has an option to manually turn of jealousy for an individual sim, but what I'm saying is that, if you're gonna do a harem thing, it should happen automatically when they agree to move in). But that could certainly be separate from the dating sim stuff.

I have modded some other games, but mostly just little Ren'py things that are easy to mess with. I've never done any serious modding for a mainstream game. Not sure how thrilled I would be with that learning curve, so maybe I should start with seeing what can be done purely by modding the XMLs. Do you know of any guides that maybe give an overview of everything that's possible with that?

Well you can combine mods in order to create that.

1) WW attractions system help to divide your sim class , from high to poor. With system on an 4 or 5 star sims friend or sex progression is low than vanilla one.

2) MCComandcenter have modules to reduces relationships progression in a hard way or soft. Means you can lower the string value and might be epic harde to fill a friendship bar for non skilled sims.

3) WW dislikes , you can configure manually , values on the sims that you want to become harder to bang, with different things, like hair, voice etc. To make even harder try to star a relationship.

4) make your sims an scum with fame system from game pack get famous. I recommend you to buy it. Is really useful for anything related to fame and poor and rich people, or social class style.

You can make your sim be hated and he is going to have hard days, when tried to get a friend.

5) kinky module. Can be used to create hate until your desespérate sims try to rape that sim. Who he loves, but other sim won’t.

6) extreme violence by sacrificial.

generate powerful hate strings. When you are a marked sims every person hate you and pretend to kill you. This is maximum hate level possible for sims 4.

your sim may get murdered if other sim have a chance. Your relationship will be lowered. And will be harder to get that girl or boy.

7) traits

some traits could cause less friendship development. Or accelerate it.

those are useful to make a cassanova sim or. A loser.

so yeah is possible to create harder relationships. But you require various mods
