iggypop1 Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Simple Question: If i verify my gamefiles on steam do Steam then force me to upgrade the game?
spoonsinger Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Yes and no. If your acf file for Fallout 4 is set to read only, Steam can't upgrade your game because it needs that to be writable to note where it's got too in it's download procedure. If it's not set to read only Steam will plough on through with Beths evil agenda to your game.

Well on mine it's "appmanifest_377160.acf"(*) in the "steamapps" folder. (No idea where you have your steamapps folder and I have various locations depending on what drive I dumped the game on). Right click on the '.acf' , select properties and then tick the read-only flag. (*) You can open the file in a text editor and towards the top it should say "Fallout 4", so you know you got the right file.

Thank you mine is in Danish(SkriveBeskyttet) so to be sure, I tic in the first square? I can do that, but if i for some reason want it to upgrade i have to untic this again right? So with this ticked (read only) i can generate missing files and Ini's?
spoonsinger Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Nope when ticked Steam will not be able to download any of the FO4 files until you untick it again- any of them. You can obviously change the files yourself if that's what you mean.

That's the way it's supposed to be but here lately I've been having to go back in and recheck that box because something is unchecking it when I either enable Vortex or Steam. Not sure what is causing this, so keep a eye out
