Swiftstep Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Hey there, since currency is not really of much use in the game, how about creating a system that makes the PC dependent upon it. What do you need money for anyways? Crafting, storage, PVE. But since you find many valuables, coin sooner or later gets redundant. Why? Cause after a short time you already bought everything you need to have (storage, crafting, PVE) since everything only costs once. So, my idea: let's create something the player has to pay for in order to being able to play the game; and what is a key content? Quests. My point is that you only venture into a dungeon and actively play the (PVE) game if you have been triggered to do so. Quests are key content for immersion into the game. Meaning in short: > if the player needs to make coin to have access to its property, currency is on the big list > no money, no enter, no quests > no more buying houses to have a storage - rent a house or a piece of land. Pay or it's being seized. I find this to be a solid idea for the use of currency; plus it is immersive, too. Yeah, you're the dragonborn - but still, it's war, a perilous world AND you're an outsider. All non-human races are barely tolerated in the cities. Why would they allow any stranger to run about? Point is: I have no idea how to create such a system, or how much work it would be. My guess is that if one could re-utilize the "housebreaking" system ("you're not supposed to be in here!"), you wouldn't have to change a thing about the behaviour of the citizens. Am I right here? If you break in, the store NPC / quest giver won't speak to you. That would be part 1 of the idea. Part 2 is how much money is needed, and when you have to pay. I'd say, it should be scaled with the level of the PC. One might even use the bribery system of Riften... for one NPC. Not sure. So, what do you guys think? Is this idea worth a try? Are people interested in it? Is there a similar mod already somewhere around? Thanks in advance for your feedback on this idea.
Fulgrim_ Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Not exactly what you're looking for, but Sexlab Survival has tolls when leaving walled cities and also has an option where you have to purchase licenses for things such as weapons or armour (didn't test this function as I have other gold sinks) Other options if you feel like you're getting gold too easily are Contraband (marks looted items as stolen), Trade and Barter (allows you to increase/decrease sell and buy prices) and Taxes of the Nine Holds (you have to pay taxes if you own a home). The mod Scarcity also decreases the amount of loot in chests.

Allow me to nexus-link what you suggested so they are easier to find :) Thank you very much for your effort!
