[Question] Adding vertices/poly to meshes?

Quick couple of questions from a newbie:

1) I tried increasing the poly count of a shoe mesh using 3ds max, it showed up in the render but doesn't shop up in game? I'm guessing the weight paints don't correspond to the extra poly in the new mesh or was it lost when I added the extra poly? How do I fix this?

2) If the meshes are relatively similar, I only added extra vertices near the foot seam, can I copy the weights from the lower poly mesh and use that instead?

3) If I wanted to repaint weights on the new mesh, is there a good tutorial that explains it in detail? I can use either 3ds/maya.

If it were missing Skin / Boneweigth, you would have a CTD.

I guess you edited the mesh in 3ds. I am almost sure that this made the UV unusable - therefore not visible in the game. Check the textures, shaders and slot (should be 37) in Nifskope.

And yes, you can transfer the skin from Lowpoly to Highpoly and vice versa. Should nevertheless be checked and, if necessary, corrected manually.

However, I would use blender for modeling especially for UV, sculpting and texturing. And boneweights with outfit studio.

Hi Andy,

Do you know why 3ds export makes the UV unusable? I exported the mesh from Maya to 3ds because the snap tool in 3ds is so much easier to use (trying to get rid of god damn foot seams) and connected the vertices to a reference body. If I only moved the vertices a little bit it shouldn't effect the UV map that much right? So I'm guessing either it's 3ds or something got changed to the file itself during the export. Guess I'll try it again with Maya and see how that goes.

And by checking the mesh in Nifskope you mean checking if all the nodes and properties are the same right?

Thanks again

Moving vertices is not that bad. The texture may then not quite fit.
(Blender can sync the UV with the mesh editing.)

As I said, check the exported Nif in Nifskope. Except for the mesh itself (NiTrishape and Skin), all settings should be the same as in the original Nif.

You can also check the Nif in the CK. Just start CK (without Esp, Esm, so empty).
In ArmorAddon load your Nif. If the preview the correctly, it should also work in the game.
