ice1breaker Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Hello everyone. correct me if im wrong, as far as i know, random NPCs that spawn and walk around are pooled from un-played households in your world, even if they were from a different town, or even unassigned to a plot. so i figured out if i delete all maxis made households and added some of my own, it will exclusively spawn characters that i made. the problem is, when i do that, the game automatically generates new households and adds them to the game, how can i prevent that? i tried to test it by leaving out only 3 unplayed households and noticed the game auto generated 4 more, so i deleted them again and added 4 more of my own, but it still generated 4 more households. how can i stop the game from generating households? is there a number of households that should be present in the game for it to stop doing that? is there another way for me to achieve what i want? additionally, can i increase the frequency of NPCs spawning in the streets?

There are actually mods that limit or prevent the generation of NPC sims, like reduced random townies http://modthesims.info/d/595445/currently-broken-reduced-random-townies-generation-updated-12-27-2018.html (though it's currently broken) and NPCC http://modthesims.info/d/604590/npc-control-v-1-2-1a.html, which is not currently broken. With both you'll have to make sure to have a number of homeless sims available and assign NPC traits to them (I think NPCC has a function to do this by shift-clicking on a sim) so you'll have mailmen, DJs, landlords and such, otherwise you won't have those sims available and some features and services won't work. I also think the creator of recuced random townies has some sims available on the gallery with the appropriate NPC traits for some functions so you can just add them to your game and you'll have those NPCs.

I don't think so. Normally the game will generate sims to fill needed NPC roles, and sometimes assign sims from unplayed homeless households (as bartenders and street vendors and such), the game will also just generate homeless sims (up to a certain limit, I believe). These mods can limit generation of sims or stop it all together (I believe with NCC you can set a limit to the number of generated sims). As I said if you stop it all together you kind of have to populate your world manually with the necessary NPC sims, which isn't too hard really, just save a household to your gallery and the sims will retain any NPC traits so you can drop them back into your other worlds to fulfill that role.
Simite Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Lol I went the long way around to solving this problem and just modified anything the game generated in CASfulledit and then made the household unplayed after I "prettified" them. Now all the random townies are made by me. Oh and you asked if there's a way to increase the people on the streets, with MCCC you can set the number of homeless households and you can also set the number of sims allowed to load onto a lot, so like people passing in the streets and whatnot or clubs that actually get packed. (Changing these setting to higher then default will have a toll on the performance, so I would only recomend doing this if you're sure the computer you're running it on will be able to handle it. Otherwise your game will run slowly as hell or crash.)

However, if you use MCCC, you can use the "MCCC > MC Population > Populating Settings > Import Tray Settings" settings to force the game to pull appearance/clothing/gender options from your saved households instead of being completely random, you'd have to curate your library accordingly. You can also use NPCC by Paulson to cut down on unnecessary npc's + bienchen83/sims4me population and walkby's mods to further customize what happens when the game calls for a homeless sim to fill in a given role. edit:Also also, there's a "tutorial" by LeGardePourpre at the official sims forum called NPC CAREERS that somewhat outlines what to do if you want to assign specific sims specific jobs, but I personally consider this too much investment ymmv tho, REGARDLES read the full thread & research around some more to be better documented in the how to.
