Kashked Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I don't really take this serious enough to put it in "politics", I am not looking for a deep debate over issues of personal integrity or whatever. I just felt like sharing this. Don't really know if one should laugh or cry, but I have never heard of internet trolls causing riots before (unless possibly you count cartoonists setting the middle east on fire, but hey, causing riots in the middle east don't exactly seem like sport). http://www.businessinsider.com/gothenburg-riots-after-instagram-account-2012-12 Long story short, an Instagram account was created where you could post pictures, and I guess we can call it "reviews" of teenage girls. All of it can pretty safely be assumed to be bullshit, I've seen some of the "reviews" and it's pretty excplicit and no doubt hurtful stuff. A rumour gets around that it is a specific 17 year old girl who is the troll in question. A couple of hundred highschool students take the day off to, supposedly, beat the crap out of her (and I don't know if this is supposted to be her or just some poor girl who tried to get out of the besieged school, but she sure gets a beating... , and yeah, they are saying "oh my god" all the time. It's an international teenage-girl thing, not only restricted to english speaking countries). This of course leads to all sorts of shennanigans, and the resulting riot spreads into a mall downtown where shoppers have to flee and stores shut down. Kept on today at another school too, with some 50-100 teenagers blockading the school after YET ANOTHER rumour that, oh, that girl we beat up yesterday wasn't the one/the only one, meaning another highschool also had to send home student and staff... And to add to the drama, the girl that was in the center of all this, the alleged troll, is now under suspicion for slander, although the police straight out say that they don't have a clue if it really is her behind the instagram account. So, if that isn't succesful trolling, I don't know what is.
