swordofthesun Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 I tried to record a video using WW animations, but something went wrong and it didn't show up properly. I noticed that the raw file sizes of videos are much larger than I expected... but I think that is because of the format (Avi). So one video ended up being like 4 GB and this was the one that didn't play. I tried making it like twice and same thing happened. In the game, when I stop recording, the window freezes. The file still appears in its folder but it is not playable. So my question is... does this happen due to the length of the video? Like, I had no issues with shorter clips but this one was like about 2 mins or a little less. Is there something I can do to make it work next time? Or do I just have to accept that the pieces have to be stitched together afterwards?
R-Lo Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Hiya! I've noticed that if you record at the highest quality (uncompressed) they end up pretty huge, It crashed the editor I use too lol It's best to go a level down, if you are gonna stitch vids together anyways it seems to gain a little bit of quality on the way, I use filmora for my vids, For recording I'm using Bandicam, it has a nice output size and quality, it also has a bunch of recording options for file type and fps, resolution etc
swordofthesun Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 Is there a link to Bandicam? I only used the sims game's video recording option so far... I used premier pro video editing program to reduce the file size. And I did put 'uncompressed' as my setting because I wanted better quality since the first recording I ever did came out super blurry. Thank you for responding!

Its here https://www.bandicam.com/free-video-capture/ it has a watermark on the free version but you can lose that by chopping the top or zooming in a bit lol I went uncompressed too at first but it was a headache, it also has some strange habits too, like the video seems to be capped around 4gb and couldn't be skipped back or forth without it playing back from start, Bandicam has been ok for me and a short vid comes out below 50mb I think and I'm recording as mp4, Then after this or if I edit into a feature, I'll convert it to Webm, it still has an ok quality but it drastically reduces the file size, A 400-500mb, 5 minute long vid outputs at around 50mb which makes it a lot easier to stream on the page without too much buffering
swordofthesun Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 Interesting. I will try it. Yea, I'm tired of the large file sizes of the game. It's too much and kind of defeats the purpose of managing the mod folder to make sure I don't take up too much space on my computer. lol So the vids were a dilemma. I will try your suggestion. Thank you again!! ?

I don't know how good the TS4 recording tool is regarding performance. Maybe the simplest solution is to use the software packed with your graphics card drivers (Radeon ReLive or Shadowplay for Nvidia) as you might have them already and no extra download is required. It records at the exact resolution of your screen and does not seem to be as massive (at least that's my experience from when I war recording World of WarCraft raiding with Radeon ReLive - 10min mp4 video around 2GB with my default 1920x1080 resolution).
swordofthesun Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 @TomasGrizzly, thanks for sharing those tips. But I think Bandicam is good for me. I tried it and was about 50-70 MB for a video a little over 1 minute... and its quality was good even though the frame rate was smaller than I set it for. So, it actually gives me what I wanted to the most part and I just need to learn how to crop the video afterwards because it records the other stuff on the game screen too (like the menu along the bottom and the top, which I don't want to show in the video). Bandicam is good for me and serves my purpose. But thank you still!
