The inevitable nightmare of Skyrim animation count.

in the Skyrim and The Sims sex mod community. To put animations and use it in Skyrim requires you to use FNIS which in turn means that Skyrim can't really handle new animation correctly without an external program and that program has a limit in how much it can insert into Skyrim ( about 20K animations). So here's the problem.

As the animators continue to make animations, one day we may come to the point where a person has to choose only one animation pack between a few dozen of them because of the sheer amount of animation they contain and because FNIS Skyrim has those limitations.

now since TES6 was announced, there might be a chance that the animators might move to that in the coming years and Skyrim modding might... slowdown... or it might end up like The Sims 4 sex animation industry... numerous.

This is just wild speculation fell free to speak your mind. I'm playing Skyrim SE if that's worth mentioning.

Technically it is not a FNIS limit. It is a Skyrim limit.

actually the real limit is 12000 to 14000 before crashing (some have gotten up to 16000 but it's rare and unknown how they got there without crashing).

so we have hit the skyrim limit a long time ago and are already picking & choosing our SLAL Packs.

FYI I am currently working on a reliable way to calculate the actual animation limit for every installation, and every mod. That works extremely well for all Sexlab, Poser and similar mods (within less than 0.5 %).

The problem currently are the Alternate Animations. These suckers are very complicated, and extremely tedious and BORING to test. Although I have the calculation difference usually within 1-2% for those, there is some deviation which could make bigger differences in certain situations, and which I want to understand before I release something.

The limit actually is 26,019. But only under 2 conditions:

- they are in the most simply form ("b" basic, like in the poser mods)

- they are called with the "md" parameter ("md" motion driven, which allows package driven NPC movement during animations, or in other words, does not prvent NPCs from moving away while an animation is played)

Everything else has more functionality, and requires more resources. And brings Skyrim to its knees.

And since the big poser mods like Halo and Pinups are using this "md", you can get to a much higher count than the usual 12-14k. That's why I have thought for such a long time that it is no problem to get to the 19 to 20k.

Oh right. but technically, you could only replace animations in Skyrim unless you use FNIS right? Or is that not how it works?
