Where to start diagnosing a CTD?

Alright so here we go.  Typing this out in a text editor because it seems the site is having difficulty.  Anyway, Up until two days ago, I was happily playing Fallout 4, heavily (and I mean *Heavily* modded, I was bouncing off the 255 mod limit and had actually somehow exceeded it and had it be relatively stable.  Then I was clearing out the Gunner's Plaza, had already beaten the boss, and when I went to buffalo some guy with my pistol he did the same, and the game crashed to desktop clean.  I had not made a save.  After having lost 3 save games to my own foolish behavior in adding or updating mods, this was enough, I decided to fire up Skyrim for the first time in years, and see just how much better the more mature mods made it.  I also figured I'd have an easier time since I'm not *quite* as much of a sword nut as I am a gun nut and I wouldn't come anywhere close to the number of mods I had been using in FO4, and indeed I haven't.  Basically I have three dozen instead of well over two hundred.  Mostly things needed to support the Devious Devices experience, which has a lot more dependencies in Skyrim than Fallout 4 but whatever, it's more in-depth, with a lot more to do.

My problem is this: I have crashes to desktop.  Seemingly at random.  I believe I have done everything right, I have all the DLC, I have the unofficial patch, I have learned to build clothes in bodyslide and batch-built all my clothes.  I have used LOOT to order my mods.  But I get random crashes to desktop after some time.  I should say I have used the alternate-start mod (Bethesda really likes their tedious opening sequences that are really fun to play through once and then you just want to finish them) and done the DD-specific "captured princess" start so starting out is really, really tedious and I haven't been diligent with quicksaves since I had been playing FO4 on hardcore and there's no quicksave (except by way of a mod, by way of an item), or at least one easily used, and FO4 with DD's combat surrender realy obviates the need for it anyway.  So every time loses me progress.  First I didn't do the quest-start right, and looted like 2 slaver corpses and jumped in the river to try and head to the Bathing Beauties Luxury Suite, thinking once I got there I could try to escape the restraints.  Bad idea, got stuck, tried to re-load, crashed.  Gave up for the night after having tediously configured everything right.  Started again last night, everything was fine for quite a while, was in the middle of looting the slaver hideout when, boom, CTD.  No warning, no error message, nothing.  Wasn't doing anything but walking.  Went to see about the mod that should help with Skyrim's use of RAM as it's older than dirt now and definitely not taking advantage of my 32 Gigs of RAM.  Turns out that mod (ENBlaster or somesuch) has some squirly off-site requirement thing.  Wasn't about to go down that deep of a rabbit hole on a hunch and looked into seeing why it was crashing.  Apparently I need to enable some kind of crash-dump logging, use another weird off-site utility to analyze the dump (which has some kind of weird setup procedure for associating the files, not sure why you can't set file association the usual way), again realized this was much effort for who-knows-what payoff, decided to again give up for the night and played some Civ 5.

Anyway, here I am, wondering how to proceed with diagnosing this crash.  Do I set up the ENBlaster thing?  Set up the crash-dump-logging thing and play some more, waiting for it to crash?  Or do I have some fundamental hardware incompatibility?  As always, the intermittent fault is the hardest to diagnose.  System specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k 4-core @3.5GHz
RAM: 32 Gigabytes
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Graphics Adapter: NVIDIA GEForce RTX 2060/6 Gigabytes (1st-party NVIDIA card)
Sound Card: Asus Xonar DG
DirectX: Version 11
Accelerator: FusionIO Workflow accelerator 640 Gig total, configured as 400 Gig storage, 240 Gig cache.  Neither OS nor games in this storage.
Drive Controller: Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 SCSI (neither OS nor games on SCSI drives, still using the main system fixed disk for this)
Primary display monitor: Hewlett/Packard BW25
Secondary display monitor Asus whatever piece-o-shit
Tertiary monitor: Samsung flat panel television (not used at same time as other two)

When you ask questions of this nature, you need to give whomever is trying to help you all the data they need to start troubleshooting.

Although your explanation is verbose in nature, it only tells us that you crashed for some unknown reason.

So to get started:

  • copy of your load order
  • copy of your papyrus log.

All problems have a "cause and effect" nature to them, and these two items often hold the key of where to get started.

Well I was not so much hoping for someone else to troubleshoot my problem but simply advice where to begin myself.  I have experience with computers stretching back quite a ways, and have been doing game modding (although precious little in the way of actually making my own mods) since the dark days before mod managers when you had to unpack game archives yourself, modify what was found within, and either leave them unpacked (taking up several gigabytes in days when you probably didn't have too many to spare) or re-pack them again, all depending on what was required.  As always, though, the intermittent fault, or the one with no clear immediate cause (I did X and Y happened, repeatable) are the hardest to diagnose.  But it would seem that my problem is solved, for some reason completely unknown to me, two mods had become unchecked in my load order in NMM.  I checked them and went to play some more to see if that was the cause, and experienced, for the first time, the "pure virtual function call" error when my character wanted to have a schlick.  Fortunately this has already a solid solution and after applying it I have experienced over an hour of crash-free (if not bug-free) gameplay.  The bugs are all little things, though, the kind you can happily ignore (it IS a Bethesda game, after all ? ); seems pre-dead corpses of women have their tits stretched in weird ways (haven't yet made any myself) and I once got a message out of nowhere while interacting with a corpse about a bound girl shivering as I put a chastity belt onto her.  Ah well, at least it's working well enough now.

dharvinia was correct and we need a load order. Papyrus log not so much.

99% of Skyrim CTDs are memory related. You need to install ENBoost (if you are not using an ENB), Crash Fixes and SKSE Plug-in Preloader. Skyrim doesn't particularly care about your hardware.

Stretching tits is usually a skeleton or mesh issue.

No idea what 'schlick' is.

Ah good thank you.  This is what I wanted to know, that it's that ENBoost thing I need if I get more crashes, which I haven't, played for another couple hours last night and it was rock-solid.

I have become convinced I have some kind of tit physics issue going on, the following happened: my character's left tit disappeared (ever so briefly) when firing a bow and arrow, the prisoner you meet in the other slaver lair was wearing a chastity bra except her tits kept clipping through it in odd ways, and random-ish other incidents of tits doing odd things when bent over, etc.  I think I have some kind of physics-enabled-tits incompatibility going on here.  This is actually my first time trying out a tit-physics mod as I usually don't bother but I think something required it so I went with it.  I'll explore my options.

Schlick is onomatopoeia for female masturbation, like Fap for male masturbation.
